Beautiful thick, creamy light brown head of fine to medium bubbles. Very good head retention. Completely covers the glass in a tan coloured lace.
Nearly black coloured liquid. Looking at the edges of the glass under a good light you can see that the beer is very clear and has nice a red colour too.
Smells malty sweet. There’s also molasses and some kind of dried fruit in the smell too. Also some mild chocolate and roasted and extremely light green hops smell.
Medium to heavy body. Creamy texture. Somewhat effervescent.
Malty sweetness dominates the taste. The maltiness is complex with the molasses and fruitiness. Although its not very noticeable in the smell, there is a good amount of green hops taste that balances it out. The chocolate and roasted is kind of subdued behind the maltiness. There’s also a slight astringency and alcoholic notes in the taste.

On cask at C'est What? in Toronto

A- Black color with some brown reflects, not a big head retention, a bit syrupy down the glass

S- Smell is ok, not really the habitual smell for an imperial stout but it's good, maple syrup, dark malts, cold coffee notes and peat

T- Maple syrup is the first word's coming, probably from the malt sweetness, roasted and chocolate in final

M- Ok mouthfeel, not so thick, extra-light carbonation (cask), no alcohol sharpness going along with the ABV

D- Flavors are well balanced, easy to drink for the style, not a really complex brew but I appreciated it

Appearance: As black as can be. Pours a one finger, brownish head that dissipated relatively quickly.

Smell: very nice smell. Some dark chocolate, some coffee, has a sweetness that comes from a raisin/date like fruit. Darker fruits shine in the aroma of this brew.

taste: Extremely interesting. The can boasts that it is one of the boldest beers brewed in Ontario, and I would say that it could certainly be in the conversation. Strong chocolate flavours on the fore front, quickly followed by a small hint of coffee. This beer gets more interesting on the back end, with robust notes of caramel, vanilla, and dates. Exceptionally well balanced and flavourful.

feel: Medium-thick feel with light-medium carbonation. Imperial Russian stout is extremely sticky in the mouth, to the point where it is almost unappealing. However, the mouth feel still seems to work with the taste, so the stickiness that I detected is not that big of a deal.

Overall: A little rough around the edges in some areas, but overall very well balanced and very tasty. I have to say that It is my favourite offering from Wellington Brewery. Overall, I would recommend this to all stout lovers.

An Opaque blackness with reddish highlights.
Brown Creamy foam that lasts only a few sips.

A pronounced maltiness you’d expect from a stout. Well balanced bitterness with the sweet toasty taste of the malt. A dry finish with slight bitterness. The hops are not so aromatic as flavouring. Somewhat herbal or grassy. Overall a clean layering of malt and hops.

This stout has a crisp carbonation but not overly and full bodied. A pleasant experience.

"Wellingtons Imperial Russian Stout" 473can, 8%abv

Pours a dark, black brew, with a creamy reddish head. Recedes after 5-6 mins, no lacing. A strong aroma. The taste is a big strong flavour of coffee, chocolate with medium-high bitterness. Mouthfeel was medium carb.

One hell of a brew!. I first tried this beer about three months ago and it's been my favourite stout since then.Pours a nice black not allowing light to penetrate, and is topped off with a beautiful brown head which will turn to lace and and cling to the entire glass. Smell has traces of roasted coffee beans and chocolate.Taste is good with hints of coffee, chocolate and black liquorish. Feels like heaven when swallowed, great stuff!.
