Poured from a 22 oz bomber bottle.

L - Color is a brown so dark it's almost black, but is clear when a shallow sample is looked at. The head is light tan in color, made up of teeny tiny bubbles. It remains as a thick swirl until the beer is gone. It also leaves lots of lacing on the glass.

S - Aroma is mostly bready malt, but also has a whiff of roasted grains that give it a small coffee and chocolate note. It is certainly not a traditional doppelbock, but it's not roasted enough to be mistaken for a porter or stout. No obvious hops, no yeast character. Very clean.

T - The flavors are similar to a traditional doppelbock emphasizing bready and sweet malt. Less of the roasted character is in the flavor than is in the aroma. There is a low-moderate hop bitterness to offset the malt sweetness, but no real hop flavor. Like the aroma, the taste is very clean with no yeast notes, as expected for a lager.

F - Medium body. Full, somewhat prickly carbonation. Only a very light alcohol burn, which is amazing for a 12% ABV beer. Dry finish.

O - This is an interesting and unexpected beer. Not knowing what to expect from a 12% "Black Doppelbock", I found the low level of roastiness, clean, dry finish and low alcohol presence surprising. Well done!
