This is a classic German Dopple Bock. Like all of our beers it is made in strict accordance to the German Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of Brewing, which is water, malt, hops and yeast only! Lobotomy Bock is made from five types of specialty malted barley including Munich, black patent and other premium malts. And finished with two types of hops, Sterling and Perle added at the boil and again at the finish for the perfect flavor balance. Lobotomy Bock is brewed with pure artesian spring water from the historic Indian Wells Spring. Lobotomy Bock is lagered for several weeks then finished to exacting standards.

What I would expect of a great doppelbock - great taste, smooth, malty, and higher ABV. It has become my favorite bock.

Dark brown with an amber tinge, tons of bubbles and a fast dissipating beige head.

Smells of rust, toffee, black liquorice and flower.

Taste of Coke, toffee and thats it.

Medium body loaded carbonation.

I got this near Reno NV, and am drinking it in Redding ,Dec 1st, 2019.

When it comes to overall flavor and complexity this beer is not the craziest thing ever.
There are more flavorful beers with more of a kick and more nuance for sure.
This beer is one of my favorite beers because it is the most smooth and drinkable darkest lager i have ever had in my life.
It is typically between 10 to 12 percent ABV depending on the batch and every time you drink it there is an unparalleled smooth maltyness i crave.

Its Appearance is pure black almost
The smell is very subtle a light smokey caramel smell nothing strong
The taste is malty and smooth with the very typical bock taste but a little more subdued then like Celebrator or other more robust doppelbocks.
Mouth feel is very smooth not really as thick and sticky as you would except such a malty dark beer to be. also has little to no snappy alcoholic mouth feel like some higher ABV beers can have. Some people don't seem to care for that i think its the sign of a well made beer if it doesn't taste like someone poured vodka in it.

Overall this is my favorite beer "easy drinking" of all time not for its outrageous complexity but for its easy drinking malty deliciousness and unique flavor.

This brew has lighter body then what you expect from its appearance. It has a slightly sweet light chocolate flavor and goes down very smoothly with no aftertaste. I do question the 10+ABV. After enjoying a 32oz glass, it didn't have the kick i expected.

Drinkable Bock, but nothing complex about this. Very generic.

Dark brown pour with almost nothing for a head. Aroma was boozy rubbing alcohol and mega ripe dark fruit. Fucking whoof.

Taste was a mixture of nail polish, fusel alcohol, rubbing alcohol, some residual sweetness, dark fruit bitterness. Like a batch of liquid smoke and rubber cement were blended together.

I really don't like this beer.

Tried to drink this in the dark so no one could see my shame. Turned on the light briefly to comment on the "look"

L: Coca Cola black, thin bubbles, seems flat, tiniest amount of cola colored lacing
S: The lights are out again.. smells cheap, caramel, nuts, not looking forward to tasting this
T: Thankfully not much going on, seems to get most of its taste from the CO2 - like a seltzer - weird
F: Watery, a bit bitter, flat, no hit of the alcohol
O: Very odd - gross but the alcohol is hidden well - maybe this will be the next 4-loko. Avoid

Appearance - Pours a deep, dark ruby brown with a half finger of khaki colored head. Sub-par retention, leaving behind a broken layer of surface suds and a fair ring around the edges.

Smell - Caramel with light hints of chocolate. Faintly grassy hop character.

Taste - Weaker than the nose would indicate, but follows along the same profile. Fair caramel notes backed by lesser chocolate and a hint of roasted malt. Virtually no hop presence. Finish is a bit watery with light malty sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium in body with low carbonation. Goes down with a smooth, watery finish.

Overall - How is this beer over 10% ABV? It's watery and relatively bland with no bite from the alcohol. That's the easily the most impressive thing about this beer, because the other aspects are just decent.
