This ale has its origins in the traditional English style, with a generous helping of American exuberance. Bright copper in color, it has an assertive hop bitterness balanced with a subtle malt foundation. Dry hopping at two sates of the brewing process provides floral and fruity hop flavors adding to the complexity of the brew. Alcohol by volume of 8.2%. Original gravity ~ 1082; Malts ~ Two row English malt (pale, crystal and black); Hops ~ Cascade, Mt. Hood and Golding.

12 oz. bottle tried 21 Mar 2010. Received in trade with mutterfudder, thanks!

Poured in an Abita shaker pint. Small but thick light tan head. Beer is clear deep amber red in color. Minimal carbonation, almost flat. Strong aroma of English toffee and resin. Starts quite bitter and buttery. Some sweet caramel and toffee notes but quickly transitions to dryer and more bitter hop notes. Bitterness seems a bit light for an IIPA. Ethanol becomes fairly pronounced towards the end.

Overall decent, I disliked the the butteriness but A enjoyed it.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a golden bronzed copper sort of color with a slim cap of a little white foamy head that quickly fell off. Not much lace. The aroma had some sweet orange marmalade playing with some caramel/toffee backbone and a little bit of bubblegum and sweet dried wood. Grassy to earthy hop bitterness. The flavor wrote the prior mentioned aromas into the taste sweetly and guided fairly nice into the aftertaste and then on into the finish. The palate was about medium bodied with a structured carbonation that felt fine. ABV felt as projected. Overall, good for a DIPA by a brewery that I tend to take for granted sometimes.

Not a bad beer. I really perfer the more hopy IPA's This one is a bit too malty and not hoppy enough for an IPA in my opinion. It also has a strong alcahol presents. It is definately worth trying if you like the sweeter malty beers or if you like to experiment with different beers. If you are a hop head like me, this is not really the beer for you. Good Luck

12 oz bottle was poured into a tulip glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a one finger head that has reduced to a small puffy head. It is an amber copper color with some haziness to it and visions of bubbles coming up through the glass. Super nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: I am picking up citrus notes in there that is mostly grapefruit. It also has some bready and caramel notes to it too. Maltiness balances out the scent really well.

Taste: The maltiness of the beer hides the hop flavors. They are there, put the hops are in the rear of the sip. Still a tasty brew.

Mouthfeel: silky smooth, medium to full bodied, medium carbonation, and easy to drink.

Overall: I would others over this, but this beer is still a good one whether bottle or draft. Four packs in Maine are reasonable priced for this solid beer too.

A: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a dark amber color and a hazy consistency. There was a big, foamy, long-lasting head. Average lacing.

S: A sharp aroma of hops, caramel, malt and booze.

T: Tasted of hops, some light citrus, caramel malt, and a distinct alcohol presence. Not necessarily a bad flavor, but somewhat unfocused.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a dry, bitter finish. Slightly acidic. Medium-bodied.

O: On the whole, this is an OK beer, though I think of a few DIPAs I would choose first.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler glass.

A: The beer is a bright reddish brown color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma caramelized malts, grassy hops and some citrus.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus up front. Then a strong hops bitterness follows but it’s a bit subdued for the style. The malt character is hearty and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, tamer than most but still a good representation of style, although there are better 2IPA’s out there this is a solid beer worth drinking for a while.

Gorgeous color and pour.

Odd moldy, leather smell and taste. Tastes like a leather shoe that has been left in a closet with a blanket that a wet dog slept on for several hours, but for some reason I kinda like it. Not good, not bad, but I won't rush out to buy it again.

A- dirty blond amber color, with an inch of head.

S-Hops and malts.

T- has that IPA hoppy bite up front, but quickly turns to a smooth malty taste with a clean after taste.

M- very smooth feel. Glides across the palate light, but not too light. Pretty well balanced.

D- I like this beer. It was different, my first Imperial IPA. Not as hoppy as most IPA's or DIPA's I've had but still not a bad choice of beer.

12oz stubby.
A) Pours with a two finger head, tan in color. Tight, creamy and sticky lacing. Clear body. Amber in color.
S) Bold caramel aroma with subtle hints of citrus fruit.
T) Caramel malts with what seems to be English style hops. Well balanced. Notes of grapefruit. Grassy bitter in the finish.
M) Fizzy. Medium body. Chewy.
D) A decent imperial IPA. I'd categorize this as more of an English style imperial rather than the American hop bomb style.

this beer pours a clear reddish brown color with a creamy off white head that seems intent to stick around for the duration. the aroma brings a nice balance of sweet malt and floral hops. the taste follows with a sweet malt profile followed by a nice clean floral hop taste, the bitterness at the end caps it nicely. the full body and creamy head combined with the warmth make this a pleasant drink.
