Five Dollar Ranch Brewing Company

this place rules. a short drive from downtown but it feels like its way out there, very rural approach, a country feel to it, out among the wineries and ranches in the area, very scenic. a long driveway takes you in from the road, where a parking lot opens up in front of a newly built looking almost barn building that houses the brewery and taproom, modest from the outside, fun looking patio space out front too but the season has past for that this year, wonderful sit spot with nicer weather here though. there is also a house right there, i assume the home of the owner, neat to be able to build their business so close to their home, great property. inside its a little tight, tables packed in, a real small bar breaking up the room, and then the production space right there behind it, small fermenters and small batches in here, but room to run if things go well, good design i reckon. the beer list was solid for a place so small and new, eight or so beers on, good mix of styles. a beautiful porter was my favorite, but a tasty milkshake ipa, a fluffy and bitter extra pale, and a reliable oktoberfest also stood out. they seem to have some good technical competence in here, these beers are some of the best i had in the area, and they are just getting started. the place was bustling when i was there too, so the word seems to be out. got a change to chat with the man responsible for the place and the beers, low key, intelligent, grateful, and kind, really great to get to meet him. they have a great thing going here, and i cant see myself coming back to walla walla in the future without making time for beers in here. put them on your list!
