Best before 04.09.2017

A: Nearly black pour with a very tall and frothy light brown head. Great head retention and pretty decent lacing.

S: Hmph. Some chocolate and berry-like dark fruits. A bit charry and some cherry to boot.

T: Very interesting. It's a fruit-forward porter like a lot of baltic porters are. Dark fruits abound, particularly cherry but lots of stonefruit in general. Background of dark, dark, dark bittersweet chocolate. Charry too, especially in the finish where it turns particularly bitter and acrid. Lingering charry aftertaste with just a hint of cocoa.

M: Medium-heavy, charry and just a touch of alcohol burn.

O: Not a bad baltic porter at all. On the fruity and charry side which again is fairly typical. Easy drinking with a nice balance between acrid/bitter char and chocolate and the sweet fruitiness.

Nice dark ruby brown color with a creamy tan head. The nose is very roasty with soem chocolate and dried fruits. The taste also has roasted malts, chocolate and figs. Nice full body goes down well. A nice example of a Baltric Porter. Drinks well for a 9.5% beer.

I bought one of these on a whim. I figured I couldn't go wrong at just over $2.00 for a big 1 pint 0.9 oz bottle of 9.5% porter.

Pours black, but when held to a strong light source it's clear and deep red/brown. Thick rocky coffee colored head. dissipates into a froth leaving excellent gobs of lace.

Roasty malt aroma with hints of mocha and a hoppy twang.

Flavor is big and malty, but with a definite balancing hop presence. Also a wood-fire char character that lends to the bitterness. Finishes semi-sweet with an alcohol warming all the way down.

Mouthfeel is smooth. Medium body, maybe even a touch lighter than expected.

Overall flavorful and enjoyable. I return to this one frequently because of the value.

500mL bottle bought at Binny's on Army Trail in Chicago. Chilled and poured into hotel lowball glass.

S: Pleasant bitter chocolate fading to milky chocolate. Light coffee roast. Lightly roasted, Munich/caramel grains. Good start.

A: Jet black. Khaki pillow of foam. Drops to thin layer. Sticky lacing. No legs.

T: bitter chocolate and coffee. Munich-is malt, similar to smell. Full herbal hop flavor with not quite balancing bitterness. Clean yeast. No ethanol.

M: Moderately full, enhanced by fluffy foam. Roasts and hops dry out the end.

O: Really a nice porter. Think this is my first Baltic Porter and I like it. Very clean, malty, roasty, just underbalanced (in a good way) by hop flavor. For the price it is hard to beat and I'll buy again.
