Style: Altbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
ALTitude – Altbier with Attitude, is a limited edition release of the original recipe for the Headwall Alt. The original pilot batch was smooth, malty, full bodied but too high in alcohol (7.5% abv), to become the “session beer” Headwall Alt. Too strong to be a classic Altbier, but too good to forget, we knew we wanted to one day brew this novel beer again and share it with you. Like the Headwall Alt, the ALTitude is cold conditioned, dry-hopped and krausened in the bottle or keg. The process takes about 60 days.

Draught @ Brewery: This one pours a hazy brown color. There was a wisp of an off white head and minimal lacing. The nose if good. VERY malty. Dark gruits and raisins also. The taste is very good. Caramel malts, dark fruits, raisin. A Very nice beer.

Pours a slightly hazy mahogany with small tan cap. Pretty. Aroma is that of a dopplebock (a fave) - raisins, molasses, ripe dark fruits - love it. Flavor follows very similarly with lots of malty sweetness embedded with ripe fruits. Just enough barely detectable mild earthy hop kicks in at the end of the sip to almost balance it and leave a fairly clean finish with only the slightest sweet lingering. This stuff is fantastic.

Tuckerman Altitude seems to be that perfect beer to have on a ski resort. It feels heavy with a strong after taste. It was not what I expected so may be a bias review. It seemed too bitter for a dark beer. It almost seems they added to many hops and not the right flavors to complement it.

Pretty good beer with the malt being pronounced and up front. Not my style but not bad either.

Bottled on 10/01/13, gotta love bottling dates.

Pours a large fizzy frothy thick 2+ finger head that fades pretty slowly, some spotty lacing, very dark mahogany brown color with hints of light coming through.

Nose nice brown malts, little nutty, caramel, syrupy, with some earthy spicy hops, fresh wort, and mild boozy aroma.

Taste brings more brown malts, sweet and a bit syrupy, candy syrup with caramel and nutty flavors, mild boozy taste and warmth, more sweet fresh wort. Also some earthy hops, faint pine and forest floor, mild to fair bitterness. Finish is dry and not really sticky either, mild bitterness, bit more earthy hops, caramel, nutty syrupy flavors lingering.

Mouth is med to a bit bigger bodied, lots of carbonation perhaps a bit too much, touch of booze warmth, bit syrupy.

Overall meh, an OK beer but nothing too special, a bit over carbonated, not hoppy enough for the style, more like a big brown ale than an alt. Then again, it is pretty tasty and enjoyable.
