“Kräftskiva” translates “crab fish party”, a Cajun-like Swedish traditional feast hold in the middle of August, preferably outdoors with the participants dressed in silly paper-hats. The crawfish are cooked in a salty dill-spiced liquor and they are consumed with beer, schnapps (lots of it), cheese and lots of singing. This beer is designed for those parties.

The colour is deep yellow with a tint of gold. The foam makes a fizzing sound while sinking down to a firm, finger thick white layer. Looks like a fine lager to me!

The quite strong smell is sweet and loaded with lots of creamy malt and diacetyl. There is also a sour note of wet hay and wheat dough.

The taste is balanced with a pleasantly sweet and full-bodied malty start. The flavours develop into a bread-like mild sourness (matured cheeses?) with flowery and mild spicy notes (cloves? nutmeg?): There are lots of aroma hops in this brew! The aftertaste is creamy and mild with a touch of cucumber (!) and gravy, maybe even a metallic touch.

This is probably the least hopped beer I have reviewed from Slottskällans. However, it is well crafted and well though out. A shame I don’t eat shellfish.

The carbonation is strong and very refreshing, but it borders of being too sharp. The bubbles are medium sized.

The figure on the label is “Razor”, the villain of the popular Swedish comic “Assar”.
