Very Good
Cuvée SofieCuvée Sofie
Notes: Cuvée Sofie is the barrel-aged version of Phi. Complex, refined flavours, originating from the tannins of the Bordeaux barrel and the wine that initially filled it create a soft, refreshing sipping beer that blurs the differences between beer and wine.

L: Slightly murky brown-ish color, minimal head and lacing, light carbonation.

S: Sour, vinegar.

T: Sour, vinegar, tart. Not bad.

F: Medium bodied, tons of flavor, hard to drink due to extreme acidity.

O: It's not a bad beer but it's hard to enjoy due to the extreme acidity.

Pours a deep amber coloration with a tiny, fizzy, quickly vanishing head and some floaters on the final pour. Smells of red berries, white grape, tannins and oak, with a certain vinous note. Taste starts out rather sweet, with fruity notes of red berries: raspberry, redcurrant, white grape and light citrus. Then a medium, moldy sourness creeps in that's not very funky and more acidic/lactic in character. Strong notes of tannins and oak as well, which lend quite a vinous quality to this. Some light, spicy esters and musty earthiness are present too. Finishes with a medium sourness and some tannins lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and low carbonation.

There's a lot going on here and while this lends a good complexity to this, the balance could be better in my opinion. This starts out way too sweet for me and the vinous character isn't really my cup of tea either. I would have like a little funk, which this beer clearly isn't about though. If you like sweet, fruity sours with a strong vinous character then you are probably going to enjoy this quite a bit.

WOW, I didn't expect this - this is a really good beer. I had many Alvinne beers, but wasn't blown away before like this time. This is among the better Lambic raspberry / cherry beers out there. A nice one Glenn! Thumbs up.
