L- Reddish brown with light brown with very little foam.
S- Vinegary, Red cabbage and apples and a touch of cranberry. Smell is delightful.

T- Mellow earthy to a pleasant and short burst of a sour, unripened plum.

F- Medium mouthfeel and food friendly dryness.

Overall: A novice to sours and I enjoyed this one. It smelled good and not too puckery sour. Perfect as it was. I would have again, without hesitation.

Had 5oz. of this beer at the Draught House Pub & Brewery in Austin, TX last night. Beer was delicious in taste and aroma, but lacked a bit of carbonation and it had no head.

No date on bottle.

Not much of a sound when the bottle opened- either this beer is just not very carbonated or it has been lost. The beer is very dark brown and there is no head whatsoever.

Smell contains lots of oak and a tart, port-like dark fruit smell.

Taste is quite tart, lots of oak. Resembles balsamic vinegar, with the addition of a vinous, winey flavour. Aftertaste is fairly sour and not particularly pleasant.

Medium bodied, totally flat. Quite astringent. Unfortunate.

Reading other reviews, it is clear both that (a) this beer is not meant to be as flat as it is, and (b) this is a not uncommon problem with this beer. In the state that I got it, it is not particuarly good, with the body really being a problem. Properly bottled, this might be much better.

Man....first smelling this beer I knew it was a great Our Bruin Flemish Sour. Smells of sour cherry with a mild barrel funk ending. Very dark mahogany in appearance. Nice white head with a light purple hue...stayed around awhile to a thin lacy head. A small swear brought a little 1/4 finger head back. The taste was what I was hoping for. Sour cherries up front that hits your back sides of your toungue. Then the tart barrel funky sour hits the middle of the tongue to finish...hanging on at the end is a dry almost earthy after taste. This was a great beer. A must have if you like this style.

Appears quite dark with no head.

Citrus sour, with a fruity sweet smell

Oak and lime sour, yeast and dark fruit. There's a caramel note that starts to grow on you as the beer warms.

Thin but not watery, and oily kind of feel. Not alot of carbonation.

The flavor of this reminds one of a whiskey sour mixed drink. Just with a touch of carbonation.

330ml bottle into Delirium Noel snifter

A - Very dark brown beer. Looks a little watery after the giant cola colored head fizzes away. No head retention, no lacing. Watch out for sediment when pouring.

S - At first I was getting some iron character, but that faded after a few minutes. I'm glad, because that is almost always unenjoyable for me. A nice, classic tart esters, some barrel - red wine? - and a clear presence of sweet dark malted barley.

T - Sweet malts with a lot of sour cherry and tart candy flavors.

M - Effervescent and refreshing. Leaves you a bit puckered, but it's nice. Feels like you've been drinking a nice red wine.

O - A very nice beer. I am glad that I was able to have a few bottles of this, and could see myself having it again. It's a little on the spendy side, and I would say it's only a must try for real fans of Flemish Ales. I wish there wasn't as much sediment in the bottle, that isn't as appealing. If this were on draft, I would definitely get a glass. Worth trying.

This is Zymatore Edtion 2012 Batch 3, aged on Ransom Spirits Whisky, Pinot Noir and Late Harvest Zinfandel Barrels. Alvino sour aged on red grapes blended with Mano Negra (Belgian Stout). Blended and barrel aged. Barrel Numbers 12, 147, 149 and 150, Filled 3/5/12, emptied 10/7/13. Poured from a 750 ml bomber into a Founders Snifter at around 50F.

A: Basically a still beer, no carb other than the slightest cap which formed from nucleation after the pour. I Poured it aggressively. Dark Dark Dark red, basically black. Not turbid, pretty clear.

N: Tart red cherries, vinous grapes, a bit of lacto. I dont get any Belgian Owl Whisky barrel, but maybe a bit of Pinot Noir Oak. I don't get much funk or must, but there's a certain organic earthiness to the fragrance. Pleasant.

T: Big tart cherries are the dominant notes. It hits you with aggressive lambic lacto tartness, which you really get on the sides of your tongue, but transitions to the stout like oaky, very slightly smoky maltiness on the finish. Very interesting hybrid flavor profile. It's totally well integrated but you can pick out the two blended components on the front and back of eack sip.

MF: More wine-like than ale-like due to the almost total lack of carbonation. You have the tartness, which commands your palate and then puckers it a bit, without any real effervescence to cleanse. Medium bodied, with nice coating, but I could go with slightly more carbonation.

O: This is definitely a quality beer, and quite unique in approach. I can imagine that there is a fair amount of batch to batch variation based on the aging and blending methodology. If you like Flemish Reds, Oud Bruins and have an open mind, I think you will appreciate this beer. I'm a bit underwhelmed by the complex barrel aging protocol, which I imagined would be more apparent; I guess it's overshadowed by the tartness. I would definitely buy it again, and I would love to see how this ages.
