Man....first smelling this beer I knew it was a great Our Bruin Flemish Sour. Smells of sour cherry with a mild barrel funk ending. Very dark mahogany in appearance. Nice white head with a light purple hue...stayed around awhile to a thin lacy head. A small swear brought a little 1/4 finger head back. The taste was what I was hoping for. Sour cherries up front that hits your back sides of your toungue. Then the tart barrel funky sour hits the middle of the tongue to finish...hanging on at the end is a dry almost earthy after taste. This was a great beer. A must have if you like this style.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a tulip.

(A)- Pours a very dark and murky purple to burnt sienna brown in color. Some semi transparent brown froth that dissipated quickly.

(S)- Very acidic with an inky-like dark fruit aroma. Lots of dank and dirty; almost smoky oak with subtle dark cocoa. Very vinegar-like throughout. A very intense aroma for the style, but I like it.

(T)- Not quite as intense as the smell was, but with very similar characters. A great underlying acidic and vinegar-like sourness. The fruits are extremely dark like plum, prune, cassis, yet quite dirty/inky-like with a subtle smokiness that pokes through with dark cocoa and oak. Finishes very dry.

(M)- Very very subdued carbonation level, but with its vibrant acidity it really is not missed all that much. A very deep and dark rendition of the style with subtle sweetness despite all the acidity and very dirty/smoky oak.

(O)- I can see why not many would like this one, but I certainly do. Like I mentioned before, this is the darkest/deepest take on the style I have had with it being almost so earthy, I do get essences of actual dirt; strange but enjoyable somehow. It is really not much to look at, but the rest of this beer shines.

Served on tap at Ebenezers

A: Dark brown body with a good tan head.

S: Slight sour smell with a hint of vinegar

T: Light flavor with sourness and some vinegar. Slight touch of sweetness but a fairly short taste. Pretty good flanders.

M: Light bodied and really easy to drink (if you like flanders)

D: All day long easily. I ran 16 miles before I went to Ebenezers and I wish this was at the finish line ready for some thirst quenching.

L- Reddish brown with light brown with very little foam.
S- Vinegary, Red cabbage and apples and a touch of cranberry. Smell is delightful.

T- Mellow earthy to a pleasant and short burst of a sour, unripened plum.

F- Medium mouthfeel and food friendly dryness.

Overall: A novice to sours and I enjoyed this one. It smelled good and not too puckery sour. Perfect as it was. I would have again, without hesitation.

A- pours a dark dark brown color with a very short lived light tan fizzy head. Looks a bit like cola in my goblet.

S- sticky ripe cherry, damp musty oak and basaltic vinegar with notes of leather and lovely funk.

T- tart acidic sour cherry, underripe blackberry and rich oak flavors. Notes of leather, oak and basaltic vinegar mid palate. Finishes with a smidge of malt sweetness and cranberry with a lingering tartness and red wine tannins.

MF- slick acidic mouthfeel with a medium body. Low soft carbonation.

D- very drinkable for the sour lover. A bit to acidic for those who don't care for the style.

Overall an awesome beer.

11.2 oz. Bottle
Best By: Apr 2020

Poured into a tulip a pretty nice clean/clear red/amberish color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy/fizzy one-finger off-white head, which leaves some nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with a nice touch of oak, tart, cherries. The taste is really nice, malty, yeasty, nice oakyness, tart, with some cherries. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a very tasty brew. Thanks Arthur!

11.2oz bottle into a snifter. 2013 bottle

pours a murky dark red with absolutely no head. the smell is of sour cherry skins..and is quite pronounced. its not super in your face sour but the sourness is definitely there and the cherry skins are dominate in the aroma. The taste almost exactly follows suit...slight sourness but a good cherry flavor. not boozy at all. very tasty. 0 carbonation and medium bodied.

overall better than i was expecting. i really enjoyed the taste on this one!

Served from bottle (purchased at K&L in Redwood City) into Cantillon glass.

A: Super dark brown, with plenty of yeast sediment that settled at the bottom of the glass. Dark head that spurted out of the bottle... though maybe I should have kept it in the an upright position in a fridge for a day or two before opening.

S: Sour, barrely. Black currant notes, along with smoke and chocolate.

T: Tastes much like it smells. Pronounced chalky, smoky chocolate flavor, balanced by a high level of sourness for a beer this dark, and a general flandersy flavor profile. Very interesting flavor combination, to be sure, and one that works very well.

M: Very lively, bubbly mouthfeel. Very acidic.

O: In my opinion, this one is super tasty. I tried it on tap at a little event hosted by K&L at Gourmet Haus Staud, and then noticed that K&L had it in bottles. I can see how some people may be offended by the mix of flavors, or maybe they don't like sour and/or smoky beers, to begin with, but I really enjoy both of those flavors, and this beer really puts the two of them together in a great way.

Had 5oz. of this beer at the Draught House Pub & Brewery in Austin, TX last night. Beer was delicious in taste and aroma, but lacked a bit of carbonation and it had no head.
