Had this on tap at Beer Craft in Rohnert Park.

This is such a complex beer.

The nose is light and fruity, this is where the Pomegranate first comes through.

The taste is really quite amazing. It changes several times. It starts off fruity with a light 'Belgian' taste. It then goes sweet, and hops come in. It finishes with a definite barrel wood taste. There is no alcohol bite at all.

This is just an all around amazing beer with a ton going for it. Yum! I hope it's as good in the bottle!

On tap at the tap and growler the other day.

The beer pours a reddish amber color with fairly good head retention and light lacing. On the nose, this beer is definitely on the sweet and rich side, as I pick up considerable cherry cough drop, vanilla and light whiskey. On the palate, this beer is pretty impressive, although the sweetness is a bit much. Still, I really like the interwoven flavor profile of sweet cherry cough drops, whiskey, vanilla and light pinot noir. Mouthfeel is fairly full, with the whiskey flavor taming some of the sweetness a bit. Alcohol is noticeable, but the beer really isn't hot or heavy on the finish.

An impressive effort from Deschutes, though the sweetness and high alcohol definitely wears on you are a while. Got an 8 ounce pour at the T&G, and that was more than enough for me. Great beer, but a little bit goes a long way.

A: This poured a cloudy mahogany with a little light tan head.
S: It smelled like sweet caramel and nutty toffee and wild honey, with some oak and rye and a little tannic red grapes.
T: It tasted like dark fruit and nutty toffee, with some oak and leather and rye. It had a clean mostly sweet aftertaste with a little alcohol warming.
M: It was thick with a little fine carbonation. Nice slick body.
D: This was a fantastic brew, with tons of complexity and depth in the scent and taste. The body was solid, and the finish was fairly smooth. It did pack some heat, so it was much better to sip. Would probably improve with age. Wonderful beer, one of the best of the style.

Had this first time on draft, now reviewing from bottle i picked up
A: looks like the quads ive had before, dark plum brown liquid with tiny bit of tan head and cloudy
S: dark rich fruits, oak, vanilla, spicy yeast smell, also spiciness could be from rye there is alot of it,
T: very dark rich fruits like plum, whiskey, rye, oak, vanilla, definite spiciness, almost like a clove flavor, some darker roasty malt almost chocolatey, i get more of the oak flavor than vinous, i feel like i could be listing descriptors for all the flavors for like half hour. Nicely blended and i think Deschuttes does just a fantastic job at it
M: medium bodied, finely highly carbonated
O: awesome barrel aged quad with lots of interesting things going on, so glad i got to have this on draft and got a bottle, will definitely be searching out more to store away a bit

Poured into a Gavroche tulip. Pours a medium to dark red amber with a half finger light tan head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, dried and fresh dark stone fruit, rye whiskey, cherry juice. Flavor is mild caramel malt, sweet fresh dark stone fruit, pomegranate, whiskey, estery. Finishes with dry wood, mildly tart, rye whiskey and light hop bitterness. Medium bodied. Not a typical quadrupel profile, with more sweet/sour fruit flavors and less maltiness. Well made with nice mixed fruit flavors and barrel influence, more along the line of a Belgian and American strong ale hybrid. Enjoyable, but not to style.

On tap at bier station cinco de mayo

A- deep mahogany with bright amber accents. Khaki head with staying power.

S- vino, raisins, dark fruits, mollasas. Some herbal notes. Sweet and clean

T- rich, follows nose well. Superb balance. Not the depth of some others, but a smooth quality. Sweet, but mellow (barrel) finish keeps it from cloying

M- sipper. Big body. Warmth in back of throat. Very low carb. Silky.

O- just really well done. Everything comes together well.
