Notes: Affectionately referred to as “Super Jubel”, Jubel 2015 is an imperial take on our festive winter ale. Notes of toasted caramel, raisins, dates and figs are complemented by spicy and herbal hop aromas. Originally planned as a once-a-decade-ale; we just couldn’t wait another five years. Cutting their age-length in half, this semi-decade release is a welcome offering to craft beer fans near and far. This scaled-up Jubel Ale takes a nice long slumber in red wine and oak barrels for complex, powerful and refined taste that respects its winter warmer influence but tantalizes the most staunch beer connoisseur.

Its rusty garnet hues shine through a translucent glow. A dainty cap of sandy froth cast aspirations of sweet toffee, tangy red wine, earthy oak, dark fruit and hints of coffee and cocoa. Its malty sweet upstart is lush with the toffee sweetness and complex plum, prune, grape, fig and chocolate.

Its powerful flavor display charges forth with the intense malt sweetness and intricately woven dehydrated fruits, a quick charge of whisky and wine chew through the middle palate and offer their own twangy, tart warmth. Cherry, berry, red grape and vinous oaken spice prove assertive and command the taste thereafter.

What should be full and sweet is actually moderate and tangy as the lush tasting ale delivers a power-packed finish that culminates in all the acidity, alcohol warmth, residual sweetness, toasty earthiness to overwhelm the palate with little sense of hierarchy. Its a highly complex taste that's hit the market way too soon. Much more age will be required to turn this green beer into the butterfly that it is destined to become.
