Deep gold in color. Slim head. Respectable clarity. The aroma is clean..some fresh hops, balanced with lightly toasted malt. Semi-sweet. Drinkable.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, "best by" date 1-21-15.

APPEARANCE: pours a mostly clear light amber color, there are fine particles suspended, two-finger head that dissipated slowly until a thin mostly unbroken layer of small bubbles remained, medium carbonation, a good amount of lacing on the glass.

SMELL: the nose is subtle and understated, sweet, flowery, citrus, bread.

TASTE: the taste follows the nose, initially sweet and bready, then a mild citrus hop profile, this is a nicely balanced beer.

PALATE: medium body and carbonation.

OVERALL: this is my first beer from Deschutes Brewery and it is one of the better pale ales I've had, it was really well balance with a sweet malt and the hops were very much to my liking, the 5% ABV means you can enjoy more than one, the hops are pleasant but not overpowering, I would definitely buy this again, looking forward to more from this brewer.

A: The beer is crystal clear light amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high off white head that died down, consistently leaving a short head covering the surface.
S: Light aromas of citrusy hops and caramel malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, except that the caramel malts flavors seem a bit stronger. The hops contribute a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and slightly crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite easy to drink and has a good balance between the malts and hops.

Utter classic of a pale ale, both for its longevity and contribution to craft brewing, as well as for its very classic take on the style. This is a pale ale unafraid of malt. And its malt has character, aromatic, bready, satisfying. The hops are there, a touch floral, a touch tea-like and earthy, but they're secondary to the malt for me and all the better for it. Cheers to Deschutes for an enduring contribution to American brewing.
