Appearance: Very dark (slightly red when the light shines through the right way) with a light tan head.

Smell: Roasted malt and a bit of coffee.

Taste: Slightly sweet. Malty slightly coffee taste that leads into mild bitterness. No alcohol taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium thickness, well carbonated.

Overall: A very good, pretty standard stout. Comparing it to Guinness Draught (since everyone has had that, and it is a similar price), I would say Black Butte is a bit thicker, sweeter, and with a better aftertaste.

Pours pitch black with thick very thick foamy, brown head. The aroma is OK. Roasted coffee mainly with hints of dark chocolate. The taste is superb, though. Roasted coffee with hints of dark chocolate at the beginning. Leaves a mild bitter aftertaste at the end. Very flavorful beer. Would definitely recommend with an after dinner dessert.

Black/dark brown in appearance with an off white four finger head.

Smells of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits.

Tastes of slightly stale coffee, slight hint of chocolate, and raisins

Mouthfeel is very sweet, a nicer hop profile may do this beer more justice.

Overall another excellent brew from Deschutes and one of my favorite porters.

This one pours a very satisfying dark brown color with a light tan head that is moderate and slow settling that leaves decent ;lacing. The color is close to that of dark chocolate and no light seems to penetrate.

The nose is sweet malt, semi-sweet chocolate, coffee, fructose, cloves and a tinge of hops.

The taste is decent with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, malt, sweet tea and subdued hoppiness.

The moutfeel is a tad watery and the most disappointing aspect of this beer. I expect a porter to be a bit richer in texture, this one is lacking in that department.

Overall the flavor and nose make this quite the palatable beer.
