On tap at The Upper Lip.

Cacao nibs, delicate spices, a noticeable Ceylon cinnamon note. Red wine, some bourbon, a little vanilla. Nice balance. Nice roast. Nice chocolate, mild coffee. A touch of chili pepper. Medium full in body and softly carbonated with a long finish with spice and cocoa. Excellent, this is a well-structured and a beer that is enjoyable in large amounts.

Poured from 22 oz bottle into Pohjala snifter. Bottled on 06/12/17. 12.2%
A: Pours a nice dark brown with 1.5 inch light tan head with decent retention.
S: Soft dark chocolate malt, vanilla, mild sweet bourbon, fairly strong (but overly so) cinnamon, and hints of cayenne and rum. Quite a heady aroma!
T: Not quite following aroma... Dry Dutch cocoa, rum, and cinnamon hit first. Vanilla, bourbon, soft chocolate, and a hint of cayenne. That first mix lingers...and comes across as a bit odd.
M: Medium body...drinks lighter than the hefty ABV. Softly sweet and spicy. Decent balance. Lingers on the palate...but again the combo of dry Dutch cocoa, rum, and cinnamon (also a bit dry) is an odd one for me.
D: Wish this one tasted like the aroma...oh well. Maybe trying to do a bit too much in this one. Addition by subtraction? Not bad, but definitely not one of my favorite of this series.

A - Pours a deep dark brown with a one finger tan head. Nice amount of soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla and dark fruits.

T - The taste is dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, rum and light cayenne.

M - Medium body with medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel with a soft dry finish.

O - Another solid Black Butte anniversary beer. The cinnamon and cayenne are subtle but add a nice depth to the flavor.

In my pint glass the beer is black in color with a tiny tan head.
Aroma of chocolate, spice, and pepper. No alcohol to my nose.
Taste follows the aroma. Cocoa, followed by cinnamon, with a hint of cayenne. No bourbon or rum.
Medium mouthfeel.
Very nice beer. Now I need to find Black Butte XXX.

OMG, what more could you want in a brew. I bought 6 of these for 5.99 each. It seems perfectly aged. They had a couple cases. Should I get more?

Yeah. It's good. A black concoction, with all sized bubbles. The aroma is exotic. So many deep tones all mixed up. I know I've been overwhelmed by brews this big sometimes, but this one is very sip worthy (take it easy). It fills your mouth with mountains of flavor. I can't believe I scored 6 bottles for cheap (and I could get more).

Highly recommended.

Picked up a bottle from the Craft Beer Quick Stop on 9-4-17 for $15.99. Bottled on 6-12-17.

Beer poured dark brown with a nice tan head that has some decent hang time.

Nose is dark cocoa forward with a hint of booze in the background.

Taste is cocoa forward with a light touch of bourbon and rum. Cinammon is mostly gone as it was a bit player.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and very smooth.

Overall another solid Anniversary rendition. I look forward to XXX that should be hitting Phoenix soon!

22oz bottle 6/12/17.

A: Pours a deep chocolate brown with a dense couple of fingers of light brown foam. Wispy film, wispy sticky lace.
S: Molasses, cinnamon, fudge, cocoa, vanilla, sweet rum and red grape. Touch of booze.
T: Follows the nose with sweet and decadent flavors of rum and chocolate up front, followed by rich chocolate fudge, cinnamon, and a hint of vanilla and ripe grape in the finish. I get notes of warming bourbon, raisin, and leather, with tobacco, and maybe a suggestion of cayenne in the finish. Pepper is very light with just a faint tingly sensation.
M: Full body, thick and sticky mouthfeel, and warming kiss of booze, lingering sweetness, and smooth carbonation.
O: Best one in recent memory. All the flavors meld together perfectly. On the sweeter side, but not cloying. Flavors are bold and potent, but the booze is easy and drinkable. A pleasure to sip.

Had this from the tap, poured into a small snifter. Deep dark brown with a nice light brown head and lacing. Very strong chocolate smell and taste with some nice warm spices.

I had this just after the 27th birthday version. While not a rich and complex as the 27, the 29 had a very nice dryness that was very pleasant.

Another excellent BBP Reserve from Deschutes. I’ve been a fan of this annual release for a long time and I think this one ranks with the best. Beautiful look, exactly as a porter should be: dark but not opaque. For me the aroma is a bit underwhelming, but still promising. And that promise is more than realized in the taste - complex, spicy, roasty, and beautifully balanced. Feel is also just right for a porter - crisp with substantial body. Glad to have a chance to try it out, especially on tap at PDX.

Pitch black with brown edges, decent initial head that vanishes to nothing.

MInimal smell, hint of oakey bourbon.

Super complex, roasted malt, caramel, bourbon, dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla, cocoa, charred ash. As it warms, the cinnamon/pepper become more prevalent - a bit too prevalent perhaps.

Thick, viscous, boozy mouthfeel.

This was fun.

Looks like it was bottled 6/12/17. I try to have a little fresher than the first time, and I have an a year later, but this will do. Dark, but with some tannish red tint. Creamy thick head on pour, Nose is very strong barrel foremost. Some chocolate and molasses follow. Taste is smoother and less boozy than the nose would foreshadow. Robust, roasty, malty, chocolaty. Mild alcohol burn on the back end. A thinner and slightly oilier feel than I hoped for. Wished I tried this when fresher, will have my second bottle in a year, but this is, year in and year out, a beer I will but multiples of.
