Picked up a bomber from the Craft Beer Hop Stop 12-5-17 for $23.99. Bottled on 9-14-17, aged for 10 months.

Beer poured black as night with a nice tan head that has some good hang time.

Nose is dark cocoa forward with a hint of cherry over roasted malts.

Taste follows the nose, the first thing that jumps out is the cherry bark and cocoa, malt base is huge, hopping balances the sweetness out nicely with a touch of tequilla in the finish.

Mouthfeel is full and smooth, awesome as usual!

Overall a very nice variant that was fun to try, albeit a pricey proposition!

Pours opaque, dark black in color with ¼ inch head. Taste is cocoa, bourbon, tequila, and vanilla. Heavy bodied, sweet, roasty, with low carbonation. Beautifully blended. Delicious beer. Well worth the splurge.

Look- Pours pitch black with a nice brown head that settles to a thin layer; spotty lacing

Aroma- dark chocolate, espresso, smoky tequila, black licorice

Taste- dark chocolate, espresso, fruity prunes and a little bitterness. The smoky tequila note is there and easily noticeable throughout, but it's there as a compliment to the other flavors and doesn't dominate.

Feel- full bodied, low carb, and creamy with a long slightly sweet but bitter finish

Overall- The smoky tequila notes in this one really serve to enhance the already complex flavors found in the base beer. Really nice one here.

Not generally a tequila drinker (I'd call myself indifferent as opposed to not being a fan), but the tannins and vinous qualities of The Abyss really are complemented very nicely by the distinctive agave spirit notes. Heavier on the botanicals and earthy tones than the standard Abyss, with a greater smokiness, but still eminently enjoyable and a nice twist.

Black, thick fluffy tan head. Tequila really smooths out the aroma, the sweetness from the agave helps balance the tobacco leaf smokiness of the roasted malt, though it is maybe a bit boozey. Beer isn’t balanced quite as harmoniously with the classic abyss flavors - charred oak, blackstrap, tobacco leaf - powering through but the tequila adds a semi-bright note still works well. A little unrefined at times, especially on the finish, but a good variation and one you don’t see too often.

Tequila Abyss sounded nasty, so i did not buy any, but got one as a gift. This is great. Will buy another.

Much much better than this years rum barrel aged beer. That one was terrible. This one is good. Smooth and full body. Typical Abyss smell with some of the tequila barrel there. The flavor is good and the barrel is there but not too harsh. Good job on this one.

Pours a very dark opaque brown, appearing black in the glass. A generous, dark brown, somewhat dense head recedes slowly leaving an intricate web of sticky lacing. Aroma has some tequila barrel, but seems to compliment and intensify the notes of dark chocolate. Flavor is much the same. I can taste the tequila as a complimentary element, but it really seems to bring out the cocoa. There are dark roasted malt notes, coffee, and some char. A mildly astringent oak barrel comes through on the finish. Medium bodied, creamy smooth, with a hint of alcohol heat.

I know some folks decry the "ashy" taste of Abyss but, to me, that is what makes the brew special. Ashy it is not - it's a unique and complex combination of roasted malt, licorice, oak and an aroma of charred staves. Just wild and totally unique.

Tons of great reviews about the "base" Abyss so I'll keep it brief - rarely ever so I sip on tequila barrel-aged beers, and even less often do I enjoy them. This was absolutely delicious. The tequila adds a agave-rich kiss of light citrus that melds into the overall body of the beer to create a subtle spicy and earthy nuance. I could neither smell nor taste what I would call "tequila" but rather the essence of the liquor was noticeable.

I sound like an asshole making stuff up to sound fancy but I'm doing what I can to describe a beer that has no peers. I'll just stop with this - totally unique, delicious and memorable.

Deschutes The Abyss Tequila Barrel-aged, 11.9% ABV, 80 IBU. Pours black with a real nice 1+ finger brown head and incredible lacing. Aroma is tequila, taste is tequila, dark fruit, toffee/caramel, and chocolate, with slight sweetness and slight bitterness. Sure does not seem like 80 IBU, well hidden. Excellent mouthfeel. Overall outstanding, and surprisingly I prefer this over its Rum sibling. I'm surprised, as I'm not a tequila fan since barfing tequila through my nose in college.

Pours black with a finger and a half of caramel-colored foamy head. Head retention is good, with a few strands of lacing left behind. Aroma is molasses, toffee, tequila, and chocolate, with roasted and toasted malts behind. Tequila makes an appearance halfway through and retains a solid strength throughout. Flavor profile is light, boozy notes of tequila with molasses, toffee, lime, and roasted and toasted malts behind. Tequila is especially lively, and gives it a boozy taste. Mouth feel is thick, heavy, and velvety. Overall, a hearty stouts with a couple shots of tequila in each glass. The lime chaser is a bit strange.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 22oz bottle.
