2014 reserve version. Great sour brown with red fruit, biscuit, yeast, leather and earthy notes. Somewhat dry finish from the oak. Will benefit from another year.

22oz, red wax sealed bottle, 2014 Reserve edition, coming in at 10.7% ABV. Not going to bother with the 'Best After' suggestion on this one.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium bright orange-brick amber hue, with one finger of soapy and bubbly ecru head, which leaves a wash of melting iceberg lace around the glass as things gently subside.

It smells of bready, crackery caramel malt, sour cherries, vinous red grape juice, ethereal yeasty white cheese, a tame musty funk, lemon vinegar, and a soft leafy, earthy hoppiness. The taste is big bready, and mildly doughy caramel malt, underripe bing cherries, mushy strawberries, a touch of astringent wood, real vanilla, more mixed and moderately soused black orchard fruit, a rather subtle earthy and musty, cheesy funkiness, and pretty innocuous leafy, floral, and faintly perfumed hops.

The carbonation is pretty low-key, just a plainly supportive frothiness abounding, the body a decent medium weight, and more or less smooth, these particular acids not in the mood to meddle, apparently. It finishes well off-dry, the sturdy base malt buoyed by the complex sweet and sour fresh and barrel-borne fruitiness.

A rather pleasant and engaging wood-treated version of the style - it's not going to challenge Rodenbach or the Duchesse, but instead sit amicably right next to them in the limited pantheon of sour Flemish ales available around here. Fruity, certainly, and yet balanced, especially when it comes to addressing that elephant kicking back in the middle of the room (no, I'm not seeing things) - yeah, the 21+ proof booze is really hard to come by, it would seem.

2012 vintage. Nice cherry and acidic fruit notes. Deep and complex. Glad I waited a couple of years.

I didn't see this as the style it's described as. More pinot flavor than anything, not much acidity or tartness. I'll revisit this again after the best after date.

Looks and smells the part but boozy/bitter city with slight tart and slight cherry. Nothing to write home over. 2014 vintage but didn't wait until "enjoy after date." compared to befuddlement this is literally bland and more like a red ale. Not a sour...
