Bachelor Bitter is a well-rounded traditional style English pub bitter that is always on tap at our pubs. Its full-flavored perfection comes from crystal malts, providing caramelized and toasted sugar notes, and generous amounts of English and domestic hops.

Time to crank out a review of a beer I've been having for two + decades. Got purged.

Pours a dark copper color, 1/2" white head and good clarity. An aroma of hops, toast, nuttiness, earthiness dust and mild caramel.

Taste offers a good experience with a good amount of both malt and hop impact in a session like style of beer. Has an artisan nut bread like malt body that contributes the most dominant aspect of both the taste and mouth feel aspects. Light hop twinge to it, just a half a hit of bitter please. Might be slightly more carbonated than your average esb, but not in any way did it detract from anything about this beer. Has a wooden heavy bread characteristic to it.

A bit surprised to see this clock in as high as 50ibu, I would have guessed thirtysomething. Like I said, there is an appreciable hop kick in there, lightly vegetal.

I remember it, Sierra Nevada and Anderson Valley's esbs going around quite a bit back in the day.

On tap at Deschutes Roanoke

Pours copper in color with a one finger creamy white head that leaves some nice lacing behind. Smells of caramel, biscuits, floral hops and red berries. Tastes of fruity and floral hops up front, with notes of berry. Mid-palate gives light notes of caramel and biscuit malt. The finish is fruity and slightly bitter. Medium body with medium carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and finish.

The appearance was a hazy burnt orange to brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute leaving some light lacing here and there and ends up sliding for the most part. The smell had a decent amount of sweet malts, slight nuts over top of the hops. The taste was mainly the same with the light quick malty aftertaste leading to a dry sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Overall, I would say that this was a decent Bitter I could have again. I’d like to have again and wouldn’t mind having with some fish n’ chips.

You can only get it on tap in Bend, but its well worth getting a couple growlers if you ever drive through the town. It was my first bitter and I loved it. I just wish I could find it around here.
