Like fresh powder, it’s a seize-the-moment thing. This year we've chased down Virgil Gamache Farms' famed Amarillo hops. At harvest, we rush the hops from the vine to our kettles to ensure we capture the purest, juiciest essence of the hop flower in every beer. Enjoy the bright, bold aroma and flavor that comes but once a year.

Old review. Good color mix of orange and yellowish-gold. Good 2/3" white head, small bubbles. Aroma wasn't amarillo at all. In fact it was lacking for even a standard c hop ipa. Really nothing fresh hop came about from this one.
Everything about the beer seemed from a different style. Wasn't worth the bomber format.

Pours a slightly hazy, pale golden straw color with a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting cap/ring. Excellent retention, taking a while to settle and coating the glass with sheets of soapy lacing on the way down.
Slightly earthy aroma with a really strong pilsner malt presence. Dank floral hops with subtle citrus, fresh cut grass and pine needle countered by strong pilsner malt backbone with straw, bread, biscuit and light, especially apple and pear. Kind of tame for the style.
Full body than expected with a crisp hop bite that lingers over the bready yeast sweet pilsner malts into a nice dry finish. Dank and earthy with strong hints of grass, resinous oil and pine sap. Nice bitterness lingering throughout. This is countered by tropical and citrus fruit sweetness with some tart grapefruit, sweet pineapple and lemon peel. Pale biscuit malt backbone with light fruit esters. Well balanced and deceptively drinkable.

A wonderful light Pilsner color with great head retention. Aroma is wonderfully lemony citrusy and fresh, with a taste that follows. A clean finish with some citrus and lemon to linger on the palate. Great job Deschutes!

From tasting notes. Had on tap at the Bryant Lake Bowl. Pours brilliant straw with a thin white foam cap. Light grain, floral and citrus aromas rise from the glass. Melon and grapefruit rind bitterness season a biscuity malt palate. A touch vegetal on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Very easy to drink and packed with flavor.

2013 Amarillo
(Served in a nonic)
A- This beer pours a crystal clear golden yellow body that has a slow carbonation and a sticky snow white head.
S- There is an earthy bright green hops aroma grows softer as it opens up.
T- The pils malt has a nice fresh taste that grows as the beer opens up and a bit more malt sweetness comes through but stays softer than the hops, which are a green fresh hop flavor that has a slight pungency in the finish. The hops take on a mint hint in the aftertaste with some slight dry field corn notes in there aswell.
M- The medium-light mouthfeel leads to a gentle fizz that compliments the hops.
O- This beer has a nice balance of fresh malt and fresh hops that makes it very drinkable and sessionable.
