Brewed by:
Deschutes Brewery
Oregon, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.40%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Like fresh powder, it’s a seize-the-moment thing. This year we've chased down Virgil Gamache Farms' famed Amarillo hops. At harvest, we rush the hops from the vine to our kettles to ensure we capture the purest, juiciest essence of the hop flower in every beer. Enjoy the bright, bold aroma and flavor that comes but once a year.

Pours into an imperial pint glass a dull lighter golden with a very well defined almost creamy-like sticky white head, great definition and lacing from the top.Floral and citric notes in the nose along with some mint, faint sweet booze is dtected as well.Flavors of hop complexity first off I get some sweet onion and mango with lesser pine underneath,a sweet biscuit base along with some boozy sweetness in the finish, but not overly sweet.Wow alot of subtle complexities here makes for a very good "big" IPA,well done.

Appearance - Very clear with an incredibly light color. The lack of hop haze was surprising.
Smell- There is a definite hop smell. If we drank this when it was actually fresh it might have been a stronger hop aroma.
Taste- For the amount of hop flavor and aroma, there is not much bitterness, which was refreshing. There is a bit more bitter taste at the end
Mouthfeel- There is a light mouthfeel and it lingers for a short time. Very fitting for the style.
Overall- This beer does not taste like a 7.4%a and it's very drinkable.

Poured into a New Belgium globe glass.

The beer is a hazy apricot color. A white bubbly head recedes to a heavy film. Light lacing.

The aroma is very piny, with apricot and peach sweetness.

The taste is like the aroma but with sprucy wood coming in.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied.

Overall, very clean, piny, and just enough fruitiness to add balance.
