Brewed by:
Deschutes Brewery
Oregon, United States

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.40%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Like fresh powder, it’s a seize-the-moment thing. This year we've chased down Virgil Gamache Farms' famed Amarillo hops. At harvest, we rush the hops from the vine to our kettles to ensure we capture the purest, juiciest essence of the hop flower in every beer. Enjoy the bright, bold aroma and flavor that comes but once a year.

2013 release, amarillo - best by 12/18/13

a - BRAVELY DONE (always loved that)...poured a crisp transparent honey yellow with a finger of foamy head that dissolved leaving sheets of lacing clung to the glass.

s - nice citric blast. clean, crisp...soapy.

t - oh joy...citric blast. floral and a touch of tropical fruit.

m - a bit watery, subtle syrupy bitterness on the finish. light and fluffy...medium bodied.

o - overall, i dig it. deschutes is one of my all time favorite all around solid breweries. i've wanted to try this since i first heard of it...did not disappoint. too bad i they don't distro to ny, but i imagine it is only a matter of time...well, HEY DESCHUTES...NY is ready! send us beer!!!

Poured from a 22oz bomber into my trusty new belgium globe.
Pours a pale gold, thick bone white head dissipates into a thi quarter inch creamy head. Smells of pale mmalt and citrus hops, bit of grass as well. Good hop profile on the first sip, not very bitter, lots of citrus, some floral and grassy flavors on the front and clean malt carries it through to the end. Thin mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Overall, I was excited to try this years version with fresh amarillo. Unfortunately I think. My expectations were too high on this one, for a fresh hopped ale I really expected a great hop profile, not just a good profile. Oh we'll, cest la vie.

Avoided this last year due to diacetyl reports. Happy to say there's none to be found.

Hazy pale gold, frothy white foam that fades to a thin veil across the surface, delicate lacing around the edges. What looks to be tiny microsediment suspended in the glass.

Citric hoppy aroma, tangerines and leafy greenery.

Creamy feel, pale malt and an almost banana-like creamy sweetness. Resiny light bitterness in the aftertaste, citric Amarillo up front, pale malt in the middle and aftertaste. Light feel but medium bodied. Substantial and hoppy for a wet hopped IPA.
