On tap at Hay Merchant in Houston.

A: Pours an opaque black color. A one finger beige head forms and sticks around for a minute. Rings of sticky lace are left behind. This is a looker.
S: Up front is an amazing aroma of stone fruits. Cherries, plums, figs. Dark chocolate covered cherries that are slightly tart. Then comes the rest of the porter. Toasted malt, some coffee, baked bread and biscuits. Awesome.
T: Follows the nose with a big stone fruit flavor up front. Cherries, plums, figs. Chocolate and coffee. Roasted malt, toasted bread and biscuit. A bit of solvent alcohol that takes away from the nuances just a bit. Otherwise, very enjoyable.
M/D: A full body and good carbonation. Crisp, but smooth and creamy at the same time. So easy an enjoyable to drink. The alcohol is noticeable, but minor. I can sip on this all day.

I was a bit disappointed with last years version, but this is awesome. Something I really enjoy and recommend.

Pour is dark with a nice Carmel head. Aroma is sweet, Carmel. Bourbon from again makes a push at the start and on the end. Pom and some cocoa make a push but is not over whelming. Insanely delicious brew. Top notch.

This porter pours more black than a lot of stouts. No light gets through, even at the edges. Milk chocolate head that sticks around a while.

Smell is roast, chocolate and dark fruits. Really nice smelling beer.

Tastes great. Chocolate, deep flavors of dark fruits. There is a bit of the barrel and bourbon in there as well. A bit too much fruity sweetness on the finish to be a 4.5. So I am giving it four. Really good taste though.

Full, thick feel.

Outstanding all around.

I get it. This is brewed to be aged. I have a few other labels doing just that. Unfortunately, for me, this one is way over the top. I have been up for a couple of hours now with a seriously sour stomach. If it is best after 7/2013, I am not sure it should have been released for consumption before then. Marketing and hype be damned -- I'll not be putting any of this away for the future.

22oz bottle (best after 7/23/2013) into a tulip. Pours a deep rich brown w/ a thick mocha head, sticky lace.

Aroma is dark chocolate, bitter roasted malt, dark sweet fruit. Smells amazing, deep and clean.

Taste is rich pure chocolate, dark roasty malt. An outstanding balance between pure, elemental flavors. Chocolate truffles in a glass.

Mouthfeel is full-bodied, luxurious. Nice bitter finish.

Overall an outstanding anniversary version of Black Butte porter.

On tap at Saraveza on November 2nd, 2017.

L: Opaque deep brown. Almost black, but ever so slightly ruddy.
S: Pumpernickel
T: Like a sweet vanilla latte made by a master.
F: Thick, almost milkshake like, though that is clear hyperbole. Coats the mouth, and and has a very subtle effervescence.
O: Three years of age has done the old bastard good. If you're in Portland run, don't walk. You shan't regret it.

While I had a few of these when they were released earlier this year, I never got a review in. Thankfully, a local establishment put a keg on during the recent Bellingham Beer Week. Thanks Elizabeth Station!

Served in 10oz goblet. Poured a lightly translucent black, with just a very thin cap of dark tan head that had low retention and OK lacing.

The aroma featured a good amount of roast, some alcohol, some fruity sweetness and a bit of a spice tang. The flavors were the same, just bolder and more well defined.

The body was pleasantly full and smooth, very even and had a clean, dry finish. Drinkability was excellent, I had 3 goblets and would have had more if ES didn't have a 3 drink maximum. Overall, another very good brew. One my favorite yearly releases. A must try next year.

22 oz bomber poured into a snifter 8/8/12

A - Mostly black with brown edge highlights. Tan-brown head with nice lacing.

S - Lots of fig and molasses. Cherry and plum. Really come together in a nice way.

T - Chocolate, fig and toasty, sweet flavors. Any hotness is perceived as a nice, spicy finish; a delicious compliment to the sweetness of the fruit flavors.

M - Full and creamy. Just fantastic, it flows with perfect silkiness.

O - One of the best beers I've had in recent memory. I think they really got it right this time around, this beer is worth following through the course of its aging.
