Usually new breweries start in small places, however Ope! Brewing started and remains in this massive building since it opened a few years ago. Right off National Ave. with visible signage, Ope! Brewing brings to this part of West Allis which, if you look closely, is becoming chic with fresh eating and drinking establishments. I've visited Ope! multiple times before, and I just visited yesterday because it had been awhile since my last visit.
There's always a healthy crowd when I'm there, never feels quiet or stiff. This taproom has a diversity of themes inside, with each theme in a different part of the taproom. There's a large stage for music, off to the side is an old-timey arcade game, on the opposite wing are several dart boards made for playing. Another part of the taproom has a Northwoods /hunter's lodge theme with mounted animal's heads. The bar stretches across nearly the entire taproom and has wireless phone chargers built into the bar (although I've been unsuccessful at getting my phone to charge with this quirk). This is just inside the taproom. Now outside, you have a second bar pouring drinks and a place to sit at. Several long tables look like they can be turned into firepits at night. Two food trucks cooking and serving chicken wings and Mexican food. Just outside where everyone outside is drinking are places to play (but still part of Ope! Brewing), including Cornhole boards and, get this.....beach volleyball! This taproom has everything and more, and I imagine would be fun renting out.
I come thirsty and desire beer. There's always a strong selection with often over 20 beers on-tap and an impressive variety of styles, even by the high standards of today's taprooms, going from pale lagers to hazy IPA, from Belgian blondes to lactose-infused pumpkin ales. The beer menu is visible on TV screens listing the name, style, ABV, and pour price. Ope! makes some good beer as well, and I am also impressed with the glassware aesthetics used. The bar is well staffed, organized, with little wait times.
The taproom of Ope! Brewing is a fun adventure, and by taproom vibe alone one of my favorites. Combined with good beer and you have a destination taproom which you should hit up when around Milwaukee.
