Shared a snifter of this with my Miller Lite drinking brother. Afterwards he said "Maybe I do like beer...". This was after being disappointed with the Two Rivers Apple Cider.

It poured a very light honey color with a thin white head. Plenty of fruity and soft wheat esters in the nose. The taste was also barleywine reminiscent with loads of esters, a firm bitterness, but with the added taste of wheat malt.

Body was medium/medium-light with a moderate level of carbonation.

Were we not headed to the Metallica concert that night, it would have been great to share another glass.

A - Served a cloudy golden-orange color with a thin finger of frothy off-white head atop. The head fades down at a normal pace leaving behind some good lacing.

S - Aroma is a mix of strong sweet wheat with some light spiciness and some booze coming through.

T - Starts off with some strong wheat and grain with a bit of hop and spiciness alongside. Through the middle, some booze comes through with a bit more hop and spice character. The finish is a mix of more booziness, with some sweet wheat and grains alongside.

M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a nice warming finish.

D - Very drinkable. Not as full bodied as other wheatwines, but the flavors are nice and full and well balanced.

On tap at Triple Rock poured a clear golden amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of wheat, earthiness, fruittiness and light spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of wheat, toffee, light fruittiness and ligt spice with a smooth lingering tofee finish.

Served in a short stemmed pint glass at Triple Rock brewery in Berkeley. I had to rush this review a little since I knew once my food came it was going to throw off my nose and taste buds.

Came with a small white-ish head that left traces of filmy lacing as it quickly receded. Body is a bright and lucid orange amber. Plenty or carbonation can be seen even in the slightly dim light at the brewbub.

Strong citrus on the nose from the hops with a very fruity malt profile from the wheat which is anchored by subtle dry bitter hop notes.

Bitter and citrusy hops are also very prominent on the flavor keeping this from being the overly sweet beer I feared after seeing it was an 8.5% wheat. Only problem is a lack of complexity after that. I'm getting a little fruity malt and not much else outside of the hops.

Slightly fuller than mid bodied with nice even carbonation. Too drinkable for 8.5 abv although the alcohol becomes slightly more detectable as it warms. Overall an interesting beer, the best I've had in the style but this is only my second go at a Wheatwine and the first I've reviewed. A nice change of pace but Triple Rock offers better options. Truth is, since I'm stopping at one tonight I'm almost wishing I had chosen another beer.

On tap at the brewpub today.

A: Pours a light golden amber body with a small off-white head. Retention is pretty poor, and the end result is a light broken film on the brew and a very thin collar. No lacing.

S: Pear, apricot, honey, and wheat. Not too pungent.

T: Lemon, orange peel, pear, wheat, honey, and something like a straight shot of sugar (is it really sugar?). Nothing very complicated, which is a bit confusing to me; this is the wheat analog of the barleywine, which is often quite flavorful and complex. I assume this style can be, too. Nonetheless, it's fairly tasty.

M: Soft and fluffy on the palate. Moderate carbonation. It finishes malty. No trace of the ABV, which is quite nice.

D: I thought it was all right. Not a huge flavor punch, but not bad, either.
