330ml bottle from Beers of Europe (£2.19):
A dark caramel body that's translucent & topped with quite a thick, creamy to golden white colour with excellent retention & lots of lacing on the glass. It's malty on the nose with caramel, faint alcohol & a slightly nutty aroma with a nice underlying sweetness, floral notes & some hop bitterness sneaking in at the end. It's again malty tasting but with more floral touches, apple & a little yeast showing. The beer is balanced & fruity with some nutty flavours, citrus & grapefruit making an appearance too. It's sharp & strongly carbonated with a slightly dry, effervescent finish that's a tiny bit warming too.

L- Deep rich chestnut brown, pours with a slight haze - a pretty heavy layer of sediment was left in the bottle. Very good looking 5mm tan head of ultra-fine bubbles; really creamy looking.
S- Milder for me than it's deep colour suggested, just some toasty grains.
T- I'm immediately surprised, it's quite sharp, as in a notable dose of sour, almost sour apple: I was not expecting that! Again the deep colour suggested one thing but it turned out notably different. Not much else register s on my palate through the sourness.
F- Sour, hence refreshing if that's your thing otherwise mono-dimensional. Carbonation is really good, both in the mouth but the head is still holding well 10mins after the pour.
O- I thought this rather one-dimensional with the focus materially falling on it's sour note which at first seemed OTT, but after a while my palate adjusted though the beer still wasn't doing much for me, not least because beyond sour I struggled to notice any other flavours. I've added how the brewery describe the beer below. My view on it is I didn't register chocolate or caramel, but certainly got the citrus, which in a deep brown beer with a beauty of a creamy trad foam head was a swerve ball.
Very different, but not offering enough, by far, for me to wish to buy it again. Bought from BelgiumInABox in Antwerp/BE for home delivery to me in London/UK. 330ml bottle BB: 04/07/2021

Leroy Brewery: 'Kapittel Pater is a reddish brown “single” with a narrow creamy head. Like all the other Kapittel ales, this is a high fermentation beer, which matures in the bottle during secondary fermentation. We use dark malt varieties for this beer, to create an ale with notes of chocolate and caramel as well as hints of citrus.'

Brown reddish color with a thick thin head.
Aroma with notes of caramel, chocolate, raisins, banana, red apples, mild local Poperinge hops and nuts.
Flavor with notes of caramels, some cocoa, grapefruit, cinnamon, faint brown sugar, red grapes and nuts. Dry aftertaste with a mild to medium bitterness.
Light body with appropriate carbonation, not excessive.
I had low expectations given my recent encounter with their Blond and Dubbel. But this is quite pleasant with chocolate, nuts and citrusy notes. Not a sipper complexity.

Belgian dark ale of a light brown color and a small foam.
Smell is sweet with highlights to the fruity notes. Some coke notes can also be found.
Taste is similar, dark fruits are the strongest notes. There's some yeasty character here which is nice.
Banana notes can be found after it warms a bit.
Feel is similar to soda, which I do not like very much. Somewhat light, sweet and with great effervescence. It could be more bitter.

I thought I had this probably 7 years ago and either I've changed or the brew has changed... or both.
Four days ago, I just bought 4 different Kapittels from Craft Shack in San Diego ... and then I get a shipment of the Kapitells from the Massachusetts town that is the HQ of the importer for Leroy. So I start to thinking... what is going on here? How is it that me (the Belgo-phile who buys every Belgian import that makes it to Chicagoland) suddenly finds beers that he has rarely seen for the last 7 years?

There is an answer to the question, My short answer is there are better brewers than Leroy and I should focus on them.

As for for Pater, I didn't like it much this time. I've reduced my rating. And I have moved on.

Pours a mostly clear mahogany colour with an inch of off white foam that does okay with the lacing.

Smells of caramel malt, hints of fruit like apple, candi sugar and what I sense. .Cardboard.

Yep, it starts off on the sweet side with the caramel and candi sugar, gets a bit fruity and then the cardboard moves in and spoils the session. Not good.

Pretty light bodied and the carbonation is fine. I couldn't find a date of any kind on the label or the bottle; thinking this is not all that fresh. Oh well.
