Beer bottle (75cl.), tasted in 2003 (In Graslin beer bar, Nantes).

Appearance : blond/amber color, with huge white foamy head.
Smell : alcohol and grain aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : well balanced between a strong bitterness and sweet side provided by alcohol, malted.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style Belgian strong pale ale.

Pours, in an oversized glass, foggy yellowish amber color headed with dense white foam. Smelling is not much spicy neither dark fruits as Belgian Strong used to be,nevertheless gentle aromas are present. Entering is bitter becoming sweeter in your mouth. Alcohol is really present while then & on the aftertaste too. Well balanced in all senses. Drinkability is ok, suprising thick body for a blond one. A real Blond barley Wine.

An interesting, different label I have to say. De Brouwer=Qualite. (that's one of the things it says)

Pours a clouded brown touched orange. Thinner creme head. Nose is slightly spiced, but deeper fruits. Flavor is mature on the flavor delivery. Thickly bodied. Dull fruits on minor dough. Spices are there, yes. The one thing that bothers me though is the alcohol burn on the backside. We have a nice flavor going and it is what it is and then...bam! A burning alcohol. Fortunately though, it seems to disappear after several sips. Whew! Feel is smooth on liquid. Carbonation is slightly lower. This is a hearty ale. Put it against steak, chicken, or any country themed recipe, I say.

I bought this bottle a week ago at Dranken Geers in Gent, Just to try it out, i love blond beers.

There should be a best before date on the bottle but the paint is too faint to check the date.

Poured in my Struise glass this beer looks OK. Nice and decent white head which disappears after a short while. Some sediment floating in the glass. Smell of the yeast. Dry taste not very inviting to drink this beer. A pity bacause this brewer can do much better.

Bottle at my friend's place in Brussels. From notes.

A - Poured a hazy dark copper with lot's of carbonation and good chunks of sediment. Great retention but no lacing.

S - Orangey, very citrussy, booze and some yeast as well.

T - Giant orange smack. Some good hops and yeast there as well. No alcohol really.

M - Good carbonation and a medium body. Not bad.

O/D - Nice. Nothing offensive but certainly not a spectacular beer. Tasty and very estery.

A. Pored a hazy dark straw with a white fluffy, lasting white head. great lacing on the glass.

S. Bannana, cloves, spicy, alcohal

T. Sweet malts, oats, cerael, some fruit with a slight bannana, spicy clove feel. Alcohal with slight hoppy bitter finnish.

M. Light and dry. The flavor lingers on the tongue. Good carbonation medium body,

O. A decent brew for the style. It a little dry but it has alot of character and depth, a nice brew.
