2015 vintage.

A- Ruby red body from the 375ml bottle to a taster chalice. A small pink cap rises to a mm high with decent retention. The foamy ring at the edges leaves small sheets of lace.

S- My cheek muscles already hurt after a few sips. Insane sour cherries with about ten pounds of pure lactic acid and some bug funk. Pure sour ass cherries; yea.

T- Again the lactic acid ferment is off the charts. The sourness is about as big as it comes and the cherries compliment it very well joined by hints of wet oak, lemon sours, slight funk, yogurt and sour grapes. Sour patch kids really come to mind.

MF- Light bodied with a somewhat low end carbonation and an acidic oily slickness coating the palate similar to yogurt. Slightly foamy consistency. Ends extremely sour.

No suprise with Hanssens. Sour patch cherry kids with lactic acid surplus.

750 bottled Jan 2016 in a wine glass

Beautiful hazy red with a small head - quick to a thin collar, sour cherries on the nose, very sour, sharp acetic/cherry vinegar, minimal carb, light body. Pucker up! Great beer if you can handle the twang!

Opened a 375 cl bottle
Bottled 2/2013

Look: Virtually no carbonation. Looks flat. Pours a medium ligt red.

Smell: light cherry

Taste: Vinegar, tart, sour. Sharp then flattns out. Light carbonation.

Finish: Dry, nice lambic finish. Best part of this beer.

Overall: Not my favorite in style, more similar to a flemish sour than a Kriek. My first Hanssens, so this may be the brewer. The beer lacks complexity and funk. There is a nice sour flavor which incorporates the cherries with subtlety. An OK beer.

Opened a young 750 ml bottled in 2012.
Poured lovely deep red with minimal head that disappeared quickly. Smell off tart cherries and lactic acid. Taste is sharp then cherries, taste shifts to geuze backbone with good mouth feel and very light carbonation to a dry finish.
Highly recommend as solid example of the style to share.
This bottle aged well but was still young. Will be looking to restock and for vertical opportunities to fully experience the breadth this beer can offer.

Very minimal head, which seems to be a theme with Hanssens. Smell is unsurprisingly cherries, though not as complex as their Scharbeekse, but that's to be expected. Taste is like cherry vinegar. Dry, vinegar-like puckering mouthfeel that's typical for Hanssens.

375 mL bottle. Pours a deep, kinda murky red. Has a collar with big discrete bubbles. Smells of sour cherries, a little bit of vinegar, and some oak. Tastes really sour. Vinegar. Some lemon. Sour cherry. Intense, deep sour finish. Medium body with low carbonation. Too sour, but it’s got a pretty good flavor.

Look:Bright ruby red, almost purple. No head what so ever detracts from the appearance.
Smell:Cherries, cheese, pungent and sour.
Taste:Extremely tart and obviously cherries. I don't pick up much else, not very complex for a lambic but delicious.
Feel:Not much to report here.
Overall:Great sour beer, Hanssens is underated just not very complex.

Bottled Jan. 2015. Poured into wine glass.
l - Deep purple, murky, no head, pratically still.
s - sour, funk, vinegar and cherry.
t - super acidic, vinegary, cherry pie. In my mind way too vinegary for a lambic, tastes more like a flanders red. I've had Hanssens Gueuze and it seemed spot on so I'm not sure what's going on here.
f - nice and crisp bite with medium body.
o - really shocked at how much like salad dressing this tastes. Not bad tasting to me, but not what I'd expect for the stlye.
