ON tap at The Dog Street Pub in Williamsburg, VA. Hazy and a deep yellow gold in color. Lots of funkiness in the aromas, horsehide, barnyard, wet hay and more. Taste is nicely tart and sour with touches of overripened fruit. Delicious if this is your thing. Will hunt this one out again !

Reviewed from long-standing notes. Poured from a 375mL bottle into a Cigar City Humidor tulip glass.

Up front - there's no "pffft" at all after the cork is removed. This might not bode well...

A: Hazy gold. No head at all, no visible carbonation at all.

S: Moderately funky, barnyard and a touch of feet. Some strawberry fruity, tangy and sour.

T: Strawberries up front. Funky and barnyard and horseblanket with a moderate amount of lactic tartness. Cracker malt body in the background. A very dry and berry-tangy finish.

M: Has a light body, minimal alcohol presence. A very low amount of carbonation sensation, but this isn't completely flat.

O: A tasty offering from these guys, but not their best nor anything approaching best-in-class.

Deep golden color with no head. Aroma is fruity, kind of sweet with a slight chemical note. Taste is sour and fruity, slightly acidic with a nice strawberry note on the finish. Flat, slightly acidic body. Not bad but the mouthfeel could be better, it really needs some carbonation.

Bottled Jan 2011, 375ml bottle.

Slight hiss when I pulled the cork, it pours orange with small then disappearing head of foam.

The smell is very tart, fruity>, perhaps, kind of vinegar like with a healthy Brett presence.

The taste has notes of vinegar, sour fruit ie pear and apple. and a quite funky character.

Light body with very very light carbonation.

I like it and the $11 price tag didn't hurt too much.

12.7 ounce caged and corked bottle, bottled in May 2013. Served in a Prairie lambic glass, the beer pours a slightly hazy golden/orange color with a small white head that fizzled away quickly. Pretty much no lacing, either. Aroma is nice and tart, the brew smells like funk, strawberries, vinegar, oak and earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like funk, sweet and unripe strawberries, vinegar, earthiness, green apples, lemon and cheese. The tartness lingers around for a while in the finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and easy to drink. The Hanssens brews I've tried in the past have been hit or miss, but I thought this was good and I enjoyed the tartness. I'd like to try this again in the future.

Bottled in Feb 2015

A: Pours with a slight chilled haze at first. That clears up in a bit, with a pale orange/apple cider like color. At first a tiny bubbly white head forms, but recedes to nothing in a second. Though, like everything they do the color is stunning.
S: Jam like strawberries pop up front. Then that amazing funky, cheesy Hanssens kicks in, though the wonderful fruity strawberries are wonderful throughout.
T: Like the nose, strawberries absolutely pop here. Jam like, with a hint of sweetness up front. Substantial acidic puckering, but not overwhelming in that regard. Maybe vanilla sweetness from the oak. Though the funk and cheese cut through immediately. Followed by more fruit in the finish.
M/O: A light to medium body. Almost no carbonation, but that is alright. With the amount of cheesy funk I am amazed at how clean this feels. After the initial and quick sweetness, this finishes beautifully dry. So the lack of carbonation is forgiven. Not as intensely sour as their offerings tend to be, so I find this much easier to drink.

Not the most refined Lambic there is, especially considering the carbonation. That just adds to the curiosity for me, and I keep coming back. Hanssens is always unique, and this is a perfect show case for that. It might not be for everyone, but it s drinking fine for me.

Pale, apple juice appearing ale with absolutely no head or carbonation at all.

Aroma of mild vinegar and fresh, tart strawberries.

Flavor is much of the same. Not overly sour as many reviews would suggest and much less so then their Experimental Raspberry. Slightest touch of wood. Sea salt and subtle funk. No hop character.

As for the mouthfeel, again, I just can't get over the lack of carbonation. I understand this can be common for lambics but its just not appealing to me. The flatness just makes it feel like something is lacking, bores my palate and fails to bring out some desired flavors. Light body with a slick texture. Finishes on the drier, cleaner side.

Overall, a nice lambic with good use of its base fruit. Could have used a little more depth.

This is a bracingly acidic, somewhat bitter beer. Not for the faint of heart. I was able to enjoy it somewhat, but the tongue-prickling acidity was a bit much. The strawberry flavor was a bit obscured by the more extreme flavors in this beer. Kind of a letdown at $12.99. I'm glad I split the bottle, because I'm not totally sure I would have been able to drink the whole thing myself.
