i go to 1899 every so often. the atmosphere is a drinking hole. the patio is very nice with a outdoor bar, and for busy weekends or private parties there is a upstairs witch is cool. they have a gteat selection of beer, and is probably second best on the eastside next to Ballantine. the food is great cause it is made at ballantine and the best part of this place is that the drinks are one of the cheapest in town. they also have a great haapy hour. i love that they have 18 craft beers on draft, and many of these you cant find anywhere. for bottles they also have many other craft and belian beers. they also have many different wiskeys too.one thing that i noticed was that they played really good music. it was all types except for rap and pop thank god. i would reccomend this place to all and i will be back soon...

Just got back from this place within the hour. Thought I might share my thoughts.

Atmosphere. Dollar bills stapled (and maybe taped?) to the ceiling above the bar and all over the rafters above your head in the main bar area. Also plenty of beer signs including a wide range of beers, focused on macros and american craft beers. There are something like 15 taps and about 100 bottles at least but no beer list for the drafts or the bottles. "The light is burnt out in the fridge, sorry." is what the bartender told me when I asked about having difficulty in seeing what bottles are available.

Quality. A nice little pub which is all that it promised to be. The interesting selection helps this place.

Service. Just fine. Courteous bartender, I only ordered one beer.

Selection. About average. Craft beers, Bell's Two Hearted, Troeg's Hop Back, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Murphy's. GLBC Christmas Ale among others on tap. Bottles featured 4 different kinds of GLBC, 3 different Bell's, Frambois Lambics but others that frankly I could not see.

Food. I did not get any food.

Value. My Troeg's Hop Back on draft was $2. That is cheap.

Notes: A cool little place but BA's would more likely enjoy Ballantine's which is next door with a much better beer selection.

The 1899 Pub in Willougby features 18 beers on tap and 99 bottles. The bar looks like something an uncle would have built in his basement during the 1970's (wood panels, ugly red stools, etc). The outdoor padio is nice during the summer.

Typical crowd is young and old, most people there drink macros and mixed drinks.

Typical on tap selection features Bells, Pyramid, Great Lakes, Leinenkugals. Decent stuff but nothing overwellming.

Bottles feature the typical macro beers but also selections from Victory, Great Lakes, Bells, and a few Belgiums. The light for the fridge is burnt out and it is tough to see what they have.

This place is very inexpensive considering the price of Ballatines next door and Willoughby Breewing across the street.

Apperently pints glass are being broken or stolen from this place. Now all tap beers are poured in cheap plastic cups... but they fixed the light in the fridge.

Stopped here after a wedding reception on a Saturday night.

Atmosphere was young. It seems that a Tatoo was a pre-requisite to drink here. Had 18 taps, nothing special that I never had before, DFH, GL, Bells, etc...Bottle selection looked pretty decent, though not sure how many they move based on the fact that most patrons here were BMC drinkers.

Clientele were extremely strange and I have to say, my wife and I did not feel safe there.

Could it be the fact that we were dressed up from the wedding?

Or it could be the fact that a woman was wearing pointy ears who thought she was Spock?

Or maybe it was her husband who was telling me he gets messages from God on a daily basis and at the next Browns home game he is supposed to run out on the field and try to intercept a pass?

Hmmmm...Don't think we will be going back here anytime soon...Unless God tells me to.

Under new ownership and now serving food from neighboring Ballantines, 1899 is better than ever. With a selection of 18 on tap beers and 99 bottles, this bar has something for everyone. Regulars of Murphy's Stout, Sierra Nevada Pale, Paulaner Hefe-Weizen, Bell's Oberon or Two-Hearted and Arbita Purple Haze are a small portion on tap. Bottle selection is truly impressive for a small bar. La Chouffe and Chimay (red white and blue) are personal favorites.

The outdoor beer garden is great for summer evenings. Upstairs bar opens on busy weekend nights.

Ballantines pizza is a european style thin crust and tastes like a wood fired oven pizza (which i doubt it actually is). Other food selection looks good.

Service is consistently great from Toni and Stacy.

Definitely worth a try if you're in the neighborhood. Located across the parking lot from Willoughby Brewing Company.

One of my local favorites. It can get crowded on weekend nights with the 21-28 crowd, which can get overwhelming only because there is not much room to move downstairs. As far as selection goes, it's one of the best for local bars. They offer all the macro regulars, but have quite a few micros on Tap. Pyramid and Rogue come to mind from my last visit. Many, Many more in a bottle.

Take your drinks upstairs if you want to avoid the crowd and just sit down enjoy. It's a converted apartment, that has a small bar, couches, few tables, pool table, and an easy access bathroom.
