Amber body, swirling central jet of carbonation (in my Chimay glass), and a massive Belgian-style cream head. Smells of toasted candy sugar, apples, warm caramel, and yeasty bread. Very malty with tangy fruit qualities. Initially sweetness dominates but then the bitterness comes along slowly. Nice full body. Pleasing.

Poured a 330ml bottle into a chalice, A one finger light brown head on a cloudy brown.
Malts and slight hop in the node.
Mild roasted malt up front. Coffee. Licorice. An awesome long creamy finish. a very slight hop bite at the end. Smooth and well balanced.
Medium body and carbonation.
An interesting if subdued Dark Strong.

330 ml bottle served cold into a chalice. LCBO purchase for $3.45 CDN. No best before date.

Appearance - Pours a dark mahogany colored brew with a half finger of quickly receding light tan head. Small soapy collar lingers on. Not hazy, but dark enough that you can't see through it.

Smell - Not a huge amount, some cherry and a dark sweet near pastry like bread backdrop is in play. Other dark fruits like plum and prune involved as well. Nose is pretty subdued when cold.

Taste - Undercurrent of cherry, with plenty of bitterness. Dark bread involved, maybe pumpernickel with a slight bit of fruit jam on top. Booze kicks in on the back end. There's leather and maybe some smoke in there too. I think needs a bit more sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Nice warming in the back of the throat. Carbonation is medium and quite dry oin the finish. Smokey finish too.

Overall - A smokier beer than expected, but still solid, with a lot less action on the candied sugars and fruit impact compared with others in the style. Different, but distinct.

DATE: November 11, 2022... OCCASION: a second straight State Sectional championship won tonight, we begin watching Andor... pours an opaque, purplish brown body whose head swiftly lags to an off-white pencil-thin ring... sharp plum, black cherry, pastry, sweet dough, and various berries make for a robust aroma... a dry, medium-bodied, wine-like warmth that is slick, smooth and way too easy to drink... some flattened cola hints, but agreeable overall... plum, red grape, sweet dough, berries, some booze, rose petals, brown sugar, and hard fruits make this a slow-sipper that might not be worth the price point... its overall experience is stately, a good pairing with meats and cheeses or a dessert--as a dessert itself...

Shared 330 ml bottle at local tasting. Brown colour, off-white head. Moderate aroma, hints of brown kandij sugar and herbs. The flavour is more defined, brown kandij sugar without being too sweet, herbs and hops. Nice enough.

Cerveza de color cobrizo con un cordón de espuma de color beige de retención media. Cuerpo y carbonatación media. Aroma a malta y frutos secos. En boca predomina el dulzor.
Bastante inferior a la Blonde y la Ambreé.

#1718 - Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)…
L- Quite dark reddish brown, pours with some haze and a 2mm very pale tan foam cap.
S- Quite mild, some rich malt.
T- The malt^ follows through, it is quite deep, I get quite some 'roasty/toasty' aspect too which combines with some hoppy dry notes into the finish. It has Belgian yeasty ester notes and hints of spice too.
F- It is very satifying on the palate; it's clear it carries some heft (in this case ABV%!). I like the balance of rich (but not sweet!) malts with some trad hops => well balanced.
O- Very drinkable. Shame I can't buy these at the same local prices as over in Belgium as I'd/I'll happily drink this again.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! ==> Nothing really, 'Bottle fermented' is stated, but that's no surprise.
330ml bottle BB: 12/2023 Bought from BelgianBeerCompany, Stoke/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

Pours a garnet or currant colour with a slight head that quickly becomes an afterthought.
The nose is as expected in this style, with some caramel and herbs, but also a bit metallic. This foreshadowed the metallic taste within and indeed, it is strong. Also watery and with a surprisingly bitter aftertaste. The plum comes through at least.
Not the best in this style by a far shot.

Pours a cloudy, deep mahogany coloration with an amber hue, small, fluffy head and lots of fine sediment suspended in the glass. Smells of sweet, rich caramel malt, toffee, brown sugar and strong notes of dark fruit; raisin, fig, date, with just a hint of estery spice: clove. Taste is a great balance of caramel malt, toffee, brown sugar, dark fruits: raisin, fig, date and spicey yeast ester of clove, as well as just a hint of herbal hops coming through as well. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness and some caramel malt, toffee and dark fruits lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is actually somewhat less sweet than its pale brother Moinette Ambrée, due to some more herbal hops and dark fruits shining through here, lending quite a nice balance to this. Quite a niceexample of the style all in all.

Pours a dark brown color with a medium top of beige head that dissolves in a rapid pace. Aroma is of caramel, tofee, prunes, raisins, dates and brown sugar. The taste is sweet and fruity with strong roasted tones in the back. Good notes of dried fruits and caramel. The finish has a slight bitterness that is balanced very good with the malts in the back, and has a good lenght on the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth with a medium carbonation and medium body. A very good beer, and a great example of it,s style.
