Brewed by:
Brasserie Dupont sprl

Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Les Bons Voeux means best wishes, which is what Brasserie Dupont sends with this very special saison ale brewed for the holidays. Redolently aromatic, rich and velvety.

Rich gold color, fragrant (lemony with hints of pepper, banana and clove), as all the beers of Dupont are with a full, deep malt richness that lingers on your tongue for what seems the whole holiday season. Considered by some the finest offering from this unparalleled Brewery. “The best Belgian beer, if ever there could be such an award...a sumptuous, seductive 9.5% beer. Because of it’s intensity, I would recommend the novice graduate to this beer. However, if a saison that is starting to lean towards being a triple appeals to you, and if its in season, don’t hesitate.”

750 ML cage and cork bottle. $ 11.99. Poured into Chimay Goblet and Dogfish Head's signature glass.

A slightly hazy golden/copper color. Major carbonation, gyser streaming bubbles create a very healthy, white foamy covering. This brew looks Alive, and it should. The foam is much like a good Latte, thick, creamy but more stable.

The aroma is very bold and funky, sour apples and cherries from the yeast, candy, golden wheat, sweet, tangy malt.

I'm going to go with mouthfeel first : Lively and Lush. This is why I love the golden Belgian styles, the mouthfeel is unbeatable! So much life! Crispy bite with a looong, lush, smooth finish. Slightly grainy and hoppy-bitter at the very end.

The flavor is really something to behold. Full of earthy, grainy flavor's. Dry, bitter hop with a very fruity/sour yeast that is very deep in complexity. Dry wheat, and earthy grains in the very crisp malt. I love the earthy, bitter and grainy tones from the Saison style. A very rustic but coloful flavor. The 9.5 %abv only adds a nice warming depth and further charecter. Pretty strong for a Saison, but ut is a "holiday" saison! So bring it on. I just love the sour/fruity/bitter hop finish, it all rolls into one and lingers for a long time. Just exceptional.

One thing about these amazing, classic Belgian style's is the "life span" of the activity after you pour it. The duration of quality in the glass just goes on and on. You can sip and relax and not worry about it getting flat or boring. It holds true to time, changing, improving as the liquid warms. The secondary bottle fermentation is key. The supet-lively yeast strains are just brilliant. The physical effects, the head buzz from the alcohol and marvelous brewing techniques are a thing a beauty.

Dupont is currently my top brewery.

This beautiful dirty blonde from Belgium pours a perfect tanned gold color that is cloudy and very effervescent. The head is pillowy like a cloud on a hot summer day, long Lived and thick. And the Nose is excellent - Spice and yeast floating on sweet malt and citrus highlights. The Mouthfeel is crisp and carbonated - Bubbles form in your mouth and cling to your tongue as you drink this one. The flavor is aggressive hopping for real Belgian ale that is a great surprise. The malt is not as sweet as the nose in the taste but is there in great undertones that really help set this beer apart from others. Overall this one is incredibly satisfying and enjoyable - Exceptional is the Word.

On a note - There is an element to the hops in the nose that vaguely reminds me of a new can of tennis balls????????

Appearance: Dark gold with a yeasty haze and and frothy head.

Smell: A very skunky pilsner malt fragrance, balanced with a fruity hop nuance.

Taste: Forward but smooth pilsner like character countered by a bitter, earthy hop profile. Ends with a spicy yet satisfying yeast background. Amazing for its strength!

Mouthfeel: Extremely effervescent, with a light, smooth after glow.

Drinkability: Really inviting and super refreshing, easy with an ongoing enjoyment of original Dupont fashion. Tastes of strong grain, hops and different spices bring new respects to this wonderful holiday saison.
