I used a stein to serve this witbier.
The fresh and fruity odour is the first … that I discovered.
A white head with large bubbles developed, but it quickly collapsed to leave a nice creamy layer on top of the beer. In the middle there are some grey brown traces of yeast. It looks a bit like molten chocolate on top of a cup of coffee.
The odour is very rich and intense. It contains fruit: lemon, banana, orange, apple and grapes, natural sweetness: dates ,grains and yeast.
The name of the beer already reveals that it must contain a lot of yeast. This translates itself in the remains on the head, the foggy golden orange colour and the strong yeast smell.
Upfront the taste is less strong than the odour. At first it’s really disappointing actually. The taste is very water like. A slight hint of grains and some yeast.
Luckily the real taste is combined in the aftertaste. It’s a slowly evolving pallet of all components. It sets of with the yeast that becomes stronger and stronger. As seconds go by, other elements appear: lemon, grapes, cookie dough,…
The mouthfeel is quite good, very refreshing. The difference with other witbieren is that the taste concentrates more on the yeasty bread-like taste instead on the light sour fruity taste.
It’s not the best witbeer, but it earns a lot of respect because it dares to experiment en try different combinations.

Not really a wit beer. Lots of cider, sour/tart wheaty notes. Fruit, tart. Really, really nice. WAY better than I expected! Crisp, perfectly balanced. Definitely not a wit, though. Not near as amazing as Saison Dupont, though.

After a hazy and pale yellow liquid with a fine and frothy head on top fills up my glass, I am greeted by a beautiful smell that is all Dupont: funky and soft from the yeast, as well as fruity and subtly hopped. Since this is a wheat beer, the smell is also somewhat dry or grainy and sour (supported by some orange peel and some lactic acid); some banana is in there as well. According to the label, coriander is used too, but I can't find it.

Flavors of hop and wheat are stronger in the taste, and they go together very well. The orange note is there again and combines easily with the wheat. An attractive finish, slightly bitter and dry and sour still. Very refreshing.

On the one hand, this is a typical witbier; on the other, it comes closer to the German variations than other wits do. It distinguishes itself as well by accentuating the hops in stead of coriander. Another great beer from Dupont.

Drank form my Duvel Tulip

A - Pours a cloudy honeycomb colour with white film head.

S - Has a sweet buttescotch aroma to it that is very nice

T - Has plenty of the usual characteristics of a Belgian wit and finishes with a sweet zing on the tongue.

M - Light to medium body and decent carbonation

D - One of the better wits that you'll find

250ml bottle. It appears that 'Hainaut' is a province of Wallonia, as conveniently depicted on the label here. My inner geography geek very much appreciates that.

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden straw colour, with one flabby finger of puffy, densely foamy eggshell white head, which leaves a bit of splattered paint lace around the glass as it quickly bleeds out of sight.

It smells of rather sweet, sugary pale malt, citrus cream, softly astringent yeast, some light white pepper, and a mild herbal hop character. The taste is much less saccharine, with a grainy pale maltiness, a more assertive yeastiness, some softly fruity orange pith, banana chips, earthy coriander, ethereal black pepper, an echo of musty funk, and herbal, leafy hops.

The bubbles are tame in strength, and frothy all the same, the body an adequate medium weight for the style, and genuinely smooth, nothing really having the gumption to take a marring shot. It finishes on a drying note, the graininess of the malt taking that tact, the yeast holding fast, and the herbal hops lingering on.

An enjoyable witbier, the expected guest ingredients trailing off slowly through the life of the beer - big in the aroma, but hardly noticeable at the end. Subtly can take you a long way, and that's the boat this offering has tagged a ride on. Worthy of a go, just don't be surprised when the tiny bottle is prematurely drained.

Pours a cloudy, translucent pale gold with lots of protein-rich chunks at the base. Head is snowy-white, dense and even; retaining nicely. Seems to be a strong bead, although not very visible in the glass it's feeding the head nicely. Not a lot of lace, although what's left is nice.

Smells quite organic, with a vegetable earthiness pervading. Aromas poke out from the sides, including fresh apple and pineapple, lemon zest, some rubber and caramel. A little on the funky bitter side but otherwise smells pleasant and refreshing.

Taste is fairly funky and organic for the most part. A hit of steamed greens upfront with a touch of capsicaian that develops into a fresher, tangy citric flavour midway, touch of green apple and mild banana, while the slight rubbery bitterness reaches its apex here as well; a fairly strong flavour that provides a funky finish. Trails off very nicely though, longish finish that fades to a tangy citrus aftertaste that leaves one quite refreshed. Largely simple, almost underplayed palate, that dances with some funky flavours to create a nice overall rhythm.

Bit too much sizzle though, especially on the mid-palate. Almost creates a slight puckering effect which belies its otherwise smooth, refreshing flavours.

Good witbier, nice organic flavours underlying an otherwise mild, tangy palate.

Presentation: 12 ounce bottle picked up as a part of a mixed Biologique Six-Pack during a recent trip to the Dupont Brewery in Tourpes at Easter. Standard 25cl Belgo-style brown bottle sealed with a black crown cap which has dark red ‘Dupont Tourpes’ shield on it. Like the avatar in the BA database, my bottle has a green label which has the outline of the province of Hainaut set against it colored in orange. Main label has words ‘Blanche Du Hainaut Biologique’ on it. Has plenty of Organic stamps of approval. Unfiltered with a listed strength of 5.5% ABV and a Best Before Date of 03/2007.

Appearance: Pours with a gentle golden body with a soft pale haze, yet again underscoring the unfiltered nature of the brew. Big thick creamy white head rises and sits proudly; this stays around for some time and never breaks. Dissolved carbonation is average but feisty.

Nose: As with several offerings from Dupont, a trademark Hoppy nose sits neatly inside a fruity rose bowl. Bananas, pears and oranges all freshly peeled mixed with light spices and herbs. Black pepper dusts the back end with a little citric sharpness. The nose is very strong and easily enjoyed some distance from the glass. Lovely!

Taste: Hoppy finish breaks out of the fruity start. As it warms there are strong inputs from bananas and pears to start with. The finish has a puckering citric pull with heavy contributions from orange peel and spices.

Mouthfeel: Big feel from the soft velvety carbonation but the experience is one of a Blanche that has a light body, a clever oxymoron.

Drinkability: A little heavy on the sharp citric zesty tingle and thick orange laden finish to be a sessionable Blanche. It is however a very refreshing libation that has a tasty profile which satisfies.

Overall: Nothing outstanding, but a very good Blanche that drinks easily and rewards with a lovely hoppy kick set against a fruity body with light spices. The nose impresses the most but the tastes are solid.

Cloudy, bright yellow color with big fluffy white head. Aroma is nice and spicy. Taste follows with spices and just a hint of tartness. Very refreshing with high carbonation (a bit too high for my taste). Overall a very nice wit.

Bottle: Poured a light yellow ale with some white haze and a large pure white foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of light orange peel with some coriander and some wheat malt. Taste is also dominated by some light coriander and some wheat malt with a bready yeast. Body is a bit thin for the style with some perfect carbonation thought. Well done but lacking some spicing and some body to be a truly great beer from one of my favorite brewery.

Pours a cloudy orange that never seems to stop effervescing. There is a large head which leaves an intricate lace on the glass. Smell is pleasant like a spiced banana with sweet apricots and other fruits. The taste is a little weak... you can taste the same fruits but also too much water to make it enjoyable. In the very end of the sip you can get a citrus kick, but again the water takes it down quickly and leaves no lingering.

Pours straw colored liquid with a suspended yeast and a tight small bubbled head. The nose has a fair bit more sticky malt, light note of honey, assertive yeast and decent bit of peppery spice as a lemon and herbal presence take over. Bigger and brighter than the nose but lots of sweetness. Honey up front, light yeast and peppery spice mid palate, more honey, lemon and citrus dominate the back with a light bitterness. Light to medium body, a touch creamy, lively on the back of the tongue and an assertive carbonation.
