I had a small session on this excellent beer yesterday lunchtime. On pouring it has a milky appearance at first, becoming a pale straw-cloured light ale as it settles, with a nice head. A fine hop aroma and a taste experience that leaves you wanting more. Highly reccommended.

Tasted by half-pint at the GBBF 06. Served by a handpump.

A: dark straw in colour, fluffy off-white beer head and great clarity.
S: fragrant citrus hops cover a deeply malty base. Huge input from very aromatic hops...
T: quite restrained on the palate as opposed to the nose... an interesting grainy flavour, almost like oats, assumes a major place in the background... chewy malt grist, ensued by a thin-ish lemony sour edge of fruity hops... mildly bitter, crisp, citrus-zesty finish.
M&D: refreshing and smoothly carbonated, quite light in body. Overall this is a balanced and refreshing English pale ale. Jolly nice~~

On cask at The Devonshire Cat, Sheffield, UK on 7.28.09

A: A very pale gold color with thick, frothy white 1/2 finger head. Almost completely transparent. Decent retention and lacing.

S: Crisp, hoppy bite. There's more than traditional English fuggle hops going on here. Zesty, seems to be more pine in smell than floral or citrus. Really vibrant.

T: Very difficult to describe what goes on at the beginning of each sip in terms of taste... almost vegetable-flavored. Like ferns...? This veggie-like taste dissipates a third of the way through the pint, and the flavor profile becomes more citrus fruits and a strong malt base, biscuity, that guides the taste experience.

M: Somewhat chewy, with a refreshing crisp and dry aftertaste.

D: Moonshine has very different connotations in the States, but I do like this British version. It has a complexity that's engrossing and keeps you interested, making you want to try another.
