A two finger head with really good retention. The head is white foamy, creamy and rocky, it does leave some lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is medium straw color with some golden hues The clarity of the beer is fairly clear with some carbonation bubble loom within.

N; A herb note off the first sniff, lavender is mostly notable the bay and marjoram is very subtle. The beer does presents with some spicy hops, citrus, toasted malt, a touch of caramel, yeast, some earthy notes, and grass.

T: Holy shit the malt is malty with caramel, and toasty bread notes. The herbage is something to behold. Bay leaves is strong with lavender, I really do not detect marjoram. The beer also has earthy, grass, yeast, a slight funky note, and a spicy hop note.

M: A touch carbonated, sticky, sweet, and medium body.

O: Generally I have like a majority of DFH beers, this is one off centered ale I just cannot dig. I think the siason part is lost to the serious herbage note. The bay is so strong and the lavender is the backup singer. I have used a lot of bay leaves in cooking but I have never gotten the strong flavors that I tasted now. Sorry DFH I do not like this beer. I think the balance is so out of whack and to too sticky and sweet for a siason.

Appearance is a clear, roasted gold with a two finger pure white head. The aroma is a beautiful spiced lavender. (If you don't like lavender, run from this beer.) The taste is a natural and delicate spiced champagne lavender. Natural is the key word... this is not a yankee candle or some cheap air freshener... it is like your breathing in a fresh beautiful field. The mouthfeel is fluffly with sweet finish. I'm glad I found this one in my scan of what's fresh on the shelves.

Served in a snifter glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Consistent darker gold color with medium bubbles to the body creating a white head rising roughly quarter of an inch off the body. Settles to nada after to sips with no sticky lacing.

Smell: smells like honey and a bit of tea.

Taste: Sweet complex and lighter honey. Feels like chamomile and light malts. If I didn't know any better it feels just a bit like kombucha...just a bit.

Mouth: Medium carbonation and medium stickiness.

Overall: Good brew, saisons usually aren't my cup of tea but this one felt just right. Worth grabbing if you see it. Salud!

Bottled 5/2/16; drank 7/14/16 @ the Yarchives.

See-through orange appearance; champagne bubbles throughout.

A rough pour yielded a nice eggshell head; frothy lace.

Fresh flowers, cinnamon, caramel & banana notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Dry cinnamon & fresh flower flavors up front; banana & cream notes on the finish. Interesting & complex for the style; I'd have another...

cool beer, oddly similar to the saison du buff thing they did a few years back, culinary herb saison, but an awfully clean one. this has no haze at all from the tap at freshcraft, bright golden in color with a quickly dissipating white head. it smells like lavender and bay for sure, the herbs in this are intense. i think bay leaf is a tough ingredient, it can take over delicate things, especially in beer, and it does that a little bit here. the beer also presents itself much more as a belgian golden ale than a saison. i taste very little wheat in here, its hardly yeast driven at all, no funk or farm here, not even very rustic, more of a spicy or herbal monastic ale strain. certainly floral with the lavender, pungent and herbaceous all the way though. i think they could probably stand to scale that back a bit. i like the idea better than the execution here, although its incredibly refreshing for how strong it is, dry and well carbonated, even delicate in the feel for what it is. more of a small dose thing than an all day brew, but a very flavorful and interesting group of flavors. it would be better as more of a saison, rugged and unfiltered, even with a brett spike to it or something, it lacks the yeast depth i need in a beer called saison, but i liked it a lot as an herbal belgian thing. nice to see dogfish head still pushing the flavor boundaries all these years later...

Aroma is Belgian yeast, slight sweetness and spiciness bordering on vegetables. The flavor is Belgian yeast, malts, spices, a hint of vegetables and a mix of mild sweetness and slight tartness in the finish.

Pours a crystal clear dark gold in color with a thick tan head. The head lingers briefly and leaves a moderate amount of lacing but by the end of the session has dissipated completely.

Pepper spiciness leaps out first and foremost with a strong herbal scent. Lavender and bay leaves are very noticeable.

There is a hint of honey wheat bread like sweetness up front on each sip. Mid palate the lavender mixes with a light pear fruitiness. Finishes with a large helping of black pepper spiciness and a hint of alcohol.

Medium amount of carbonation. Both creamy and dry with a medium body.

Poured it a tapered wine glass.

A: Pours a rich golden color with a solid off-white head that maintains well and laces throughout.

S: A little ambiguous sweetness. Can't quite put my finger on it.

T: Oh there it is. The Dogfish staple. Reminds me of most other semi-sweet Dogfish products, e.g. Midas Touch, Positive Contact, Namaste, etc. I get a little bay leaf and marjoram, but can't say I like it. It has an odd sweet flavor much like its aroma.

M: Crisp carbonation, good for scrubbing the palate. Finishes with a nice carbonic bite.

O: Love the look and feel, but everything else leaves a lot to be desired, and is quickly becoming Dogfish's One Trick Pony, in my opinion. I wanted to like this beer, but that odd sweetness is much like some of their other products that aren't very refined.
