Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This oak-aged gentle giant has been gaining popularity over the past few years and is now available year-round.

For Burton Baton, we brew two "threads," or batches, of beer: an English-style old ale and an imperial IPA.

After fementating the beers separately in our stainless tanks, they're transferred and blended together in one of our large oak tanks. Burton Baton sits on the wood for about a month.

When enjoying the Burton Baton, you'll find an awesome blend of the citrus notes from Northwestern hops melding with woody, vanilla notes from the oak. The wood also tends to mellow the 10% ABV of Burton, so tread cautiously!

Appearance: it had a nice amber orange with moderate head that leaves a surprising amount of lacing.

Smell: the aroma is definitely interesting. The first notes are of oak and alcohol, with piney overtones. There is also tinge of marshmellow-y sweetness that round everything up in a surprising balance.

Taste: despite the high alcohol ABV, the taste is very well hidden behind a mask of sweet malts and fruits (banana and dates). This is then followed by a finishing bitterness from the hops as well as oak characteristics. Very nice.

Mouthfeel: it has a medium low carbonation and leaves a film-like texture in your mouth even after ten seconds or so.

Drinkability: Really drinkable despite the 10% and the intense flavors that are at play.
