Style: Leipzig Gose

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.90%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
SeaQuench Ale is our session sour quencher made with lime peel, black lime and sea salt. It’s a citrusy-tart union of three German styles of beer blissfully brewed into one. We begin by brewing a straightforward Kolsch with lots of wheat and Munich Malt, then we brew a salty Gose with black limes, coriander and our sea salt. We follow it all up with a citrusy-tart Berlinerweiss made with lime juice and lime peel. All three beers are then blended together in the fermentation tank to create this German hybrid.

This is easily the worst beer ever brewed by Dogfish Head. When I first tasted this beer, it was like tasting a 'granny smith apple' times 100. It was that tart and tasteless. I have warned my entire geo-locational area to ban this beer outright.

Look... I love DFH, and I like goses, but this is terrible.
Probably - no definitely - the worst offering from DFH.

Look: Pours a hazy straw yellow color with a frothy three finger head that fizzles away quickly leaving no lacing.

Smell: Aroma is of apple cider vinegar, lime juice, lemon, and a weird, salty, mineralic smell. Smells like puke to be honest... off to a bad start... uh oh what did I just buy a six pack of....

Taste: Absolutely terrible. Tastes like a skunked Corona with a lime wedge stuck in the neck of the bottle. Imagine a green jolly rancher flavor. Almost like sour mix for margaritas. Vinegary and overtly sour and astringent. Not much salt or wheat flavor to complement. A piss poor example of a gose.

Feel: Sour, like carbonated vinegar. Like sucking on a lime. Body is light with low carbonation.

I had high hopes for this but I was let down. Usually DFH is on point - unfortunately they botched this one pretty hard. It's a shame so much effort and time went into brewing three separate beers - that were pretty much defiled and raped, left to rot in the gutter- when they were blended together to concoct this abomination.

After painstakingly powering through the entire six pack (I don't drain pour) I can firmly attest to the fact that this is absolutely, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the worst thing DFH has ever decided to put in a bottle.

No offense to the boys down at DFH, I love you all, but you gotta go back to the drawing board on this here one.

Barely drinkable. Like drinking limeade with no sugar. The tartness rings throughout. The black lime doesnt work, makes an already over tart sour taste bitter. Pucker up baby!

First taste is all salt, followed by some belgian yeast flavors, quickly turning to a face puckering tartness.

Off center? Oh yah. Foul? Definitely. One of the few beers I couldn't choke down. Drain pour 100%.

Way overdone with the lime and salt. Would have been much better with more wheat in the foreground of the flavor. Tasted like a bag of lime Sour Patch Kids. Understated, delicate, or nuanced, this brew is not.

I don't see any bottle date listed.

Appearance: Light hazy golden body with absolutely no head. A fizzy white head forms when poured but nothing stays longer than a few seconds. No retention or lacing.

Aroma: Not much to go off of here. There is a bit of sulfur and that is it.

Taste: Watered down wheat flavor with just a touch of watered down lemon. Very unimpressive flavors here.

Mouthfeel: It has a good mouthfeel with a nice light tartness and a clean dry finish. The carbonation is just right to ease the beer across the palate delivering an overall clean and easy drinking experience.

Overall: A very unimpressive beer that is not memorable. It is 4.9% ABV yet is somehow a session sour. The most impressive part of this gose/session sour is the image of a black lime. It is not a beer I would recommend or drink again.

I love sours, but this didn't have the flavor I look for in a good sour. Was more bitter and very salty. Tastes more like a margarita but not in a good way.

Tastes like a Bud Light lime. And that’s not what I was going for. Take the sour out of the name and it won’t be so disappointing.

Oh, Dogfish Head, what have you done? Sea Quench takes two strong flavors and pairs them. First we have lime. And lime peel. And black limes, which are just a more exotic version of, yes, that's correct limes. What they all bring to the table is a sour bitterness. So that's basically what this is. A sour, bitter session ale. And what does a sour, bitter session ale need more than anything? Yes, salt. That's where the sea comes into this equation. Salt. Lots of salt. Not like that tiny touch of salt that makes hot chocolate palatable. This tastes of a Dead Sea's with of salt. Not only is it the entire backtaste, but it lingers. A lot. You know, this is reminding me of something ... That's it! It's beer Gatorade! Maybe it would taste better if I were all hot and sweaty. Maybe it doesn't taste good when you don't need it? All I can say is I'm glad it came in this little bitty can rather than a pint bottle.

can to tulip glass.

LOOK: murky yellow; no head.
AROMA: Lime, salt....the beach.
TASTE: lime salt, very sour...too much so. a lot of pucker in this one.
FEEL: flat. thin. tart finish.

OK, not my thing. Nothing terribly off putting, but flavor is mostly just sour lime.

Taste: kinda refreshing, tangy lime, salty, crisp, sour, tart notes. Citrus black lime nose. Pale gold, slight haze, white foam head not large. Medium to lite body. Reminds me of tequila and lime without the alcohol burn.
