Notes / Commercial Description:
SeaQuench Ale is our session sour quencher made with lime peel, black lime and sea salt. It’s a citrusy-tart union of three German styles of beer blissfully brewed into one. We begin by brewing a straightforward Kolsch with lots of wheat and Munich Malt, then we brew a salty Gose with black limes, coriander and our sea salt. We follow it all up with a citrusy-tart Berlinerweiss made with lime juice and lime peel. All three beers are then blended together in the fermentation tank to create this German hybrid.

i really liked this one, i havent had much sour stuff from dogfish head, so this is something new even from them. i like the beer a lot, could drink an absolute ton of it on a hot day, but considering the brewery, i wanted this to be a little weirder, more interesting, and more unique than it is. it is majorly refreshing, more fresh lime in here than anything else it seems, and you do get the minerals and body added by the sea salt right away, they dosed that pretty hard. black limes though? im not totally sure what to look for with those, but its not anything real distinct in here, at least not what i expected it to be. the fresh lime juice is great though, it gives it another layer of acidity and bite on top of the lactic sourness, which is pretty robust here. the wheat malt seems more flavorful here too than it usually does in these styles. they have done a great job with this on the whole, and i could see it making a killer beer margarita or something like it, half the ingredients are already there! nice to have something new from these guys, its been awhile!

Reviewed from notes, 9/10/16. New seasonal from DFH; 12oz bottle purchased at Eataly, Manhattan, NYC. Straw color, cloudy, almost non-existent head, in fact, poof, it's gone; hint of sour on the nose, but other than that, no aroma present; flavors of ginger, lime and salt; champagne-like carbonation; short, spicy/sour finish; overall, an interesting, refreshing, salty and sour ale; would be good on a hot summer day (like today); ginger notes do not make this a 'ginger ale' by any stretch, as there is no sweetness present. I would definitely buy this again.

A: Pours a very lightly hazy pale golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and faint lemon yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy fizzy foamy off-white head that quickly reduces to a small to medium sized patch of very thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of slightly sour wheat and cereal grain malts. Light aromas of lime citrus and hints of briny salt.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of slightly sour wheat and cereal grain malts with minimal amounts of sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of lime citrus and lime zest citrus along with a light flavor of briny salt. Light amounts of lingering tartness in the finish.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light to moderate amounts of acidic prickliness.

O: Not sure I really knew what to expect with a hybrid kölsch/gose/berliner weiss but I can detect some aspects of each of the styles. Not sure that I would get another of these, not that it is bad but I guess I prefer by gose or Berliner weiss on their own not as a part of a hybrid. Easy enough to drink and mostly enjoyable but it feels like something is missing.

The beer poured a clear gold color with a small white head.
Tangy citrus aroma.
Tart. Lime mostly, maybe a little lemon. A hint of salt.
Pleasantly tart and tangy. Light-bodied.

12oz bottle served in a snifter. Bottled on 07/22/16. Given to me by Derek.

Pours hazy yellow with a ring of head and moderate carbonation. Smell is tart, lemony, a little fruity around the edges.

Taste is brightly tart. Not sure how to explain that exactly. Lots of citrus -- maybe a little more lime than lemon. Sweet and tart but not overwhelmingly so. If there's salt, it's subtle (to my jaded palate). Well, scratch that, third or fourth sip, if it's on my mind, I can detect some definite saltiness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little filmy. Definitely an interesting beer, and maybe for some people really good.
