Notes / Commercial Description:
SeaQuench Ale is our session sour quencher made with lime peel, black lime and sea salt. It’s a citrusy-tart union of three German styles of beer blissfully brewed into one. We begin by brewing a straightforward Kolsch with lots of wheat and Munich Malt, then we brew a salty Gose with black limes, coriander and our sea salt. We follow it all up with a citrusy-tart Berlinerweiss made with lime juice and lime peel. All three beers are then blended together in the fermentation tank to create this German hybrid.

Bottle dated 7/23:
Very hazy straw color, with a fizzling head that doesn't take long to disappear completely.

Nose is tart lime with a hint of the ocean from a block off the boardwalk. Does take a little warmth to open these scents up. Eventually I also get a very light earthy spice note in the back of the nose, near the end.

Tart forward, the lime comes through as lime. The salinity comes in early as well, and lasts as long as the tartness. Both these fade to allow a refreshing earthy and clean finish that has a very light grain note to it.

A refreshingly tart and clean beer. I think this is mostly a Gose, but there is a bit of what I like in a Berliner there as well with the cleaner ending. This isn't as powerful as some of my favorite Gose, but it is a hybrid - and I like that it easily hits two of the three things involved in the hybrid. The third is harder to tell, but maybe I can attribute that cleaner finish to it.

This one is unique. It has a cloudy gold color with no head. The aroma is lightly citrus with a little tart hint. The flavor brings all three beer styles intermittently. It is lighter bodied but not thin and has a nice little carbonated tingle and a crisp finish.

Pours - Clear golden color with almost no head or lacing.

Smell - Lots of lime up front, little bit of orange and lemon as well.

Taste - Lots of lime and citrus the sour is minimal so this is a session for sure I could drink alot of these. Little bit of wheat and the salt is there for sure.

Feel - Light body tart and well carbonated.

Overall - A really great session sour, great flavor and feel.

Bottle from Bert's
Slightly hazy deep straw color with a small bubbly white head that dissipates almost instantly. Lime and salt on the nose with faint bread underneath. Interesting flavors melded together. I pick up the sweet bready crackery pilsner maltiness and light fruit of the kolsch. Plenty of tart lemony lime and some spice and saltiness. Pretty weird but it kind of works.

pours a hazy, lemony golden straw with a tiny head that poofs immediately. nose; a two-tone blast of putrid yeast & lemon rind. i can't NOT say this - it literally smells like vomit. taste; not nearly the monster the acrid nose portends - clean pilsner-esque grain, light sourdough/cracker malt, lemon & lime juice/zest, & yes, a touch of sea salt. medium carbonation & mouthfeel. i go into every sour beer tasting expecting a drain pour, and here we have one of the few times where they prove tolerable. still far from my favorite style, i can see this one surrogating whiskey sours. gose fans will probably enjoy.

Dogfish head is one of the biggest parts of my craft experience, and yet they're also in a lot of ways what I hate about the movement. Experiments for the sake of being different, but not to make better beer. Horrible pricing on a lot of beers, over sized bottles of high ABV beer, and the list goes on. I have been disappointed from the brewery that really pushed me into craft beer so often over the years, that I now pass on most of their offerings. So please understand I didn't go into this one with much hope. I still however liked what they said. It didn't sound like their recent "grass from the roots of 5000 year old bottles" or whatever.

This is a wheat/sour almost too classic for a gose from dogfish head. This is pretty much dead on for the style bringing together so many traditional styles.

It's crisp, clean, tasty, sour, and a bit heavy for 4.9% the only real flaw is that this drinks close to a bowl of oatmeal than say grits. the body seems to miss the summer beer levels, it's just too heavy with a bit of an almost gluten free bread like character.

As Gose beers go, this has a very nice flavor, a good nose, great looking appearance, but man it's like drinking a meal by gose standards. They need to bring down the yeast finish a bit in their next run at this.

All that said really good beer if you're lookign to have 1-2 on a summer day, but not an all day summer beer.
