Notes: Combining a roasty Imperial Stout with a jammy Syrah wine, this beer is bold and complex. Notes of coffee, dark chocolate and anise from a blend of roasted malts meld with flavors of plums, cherries and stewed fruits from Syrah grape must in this jet black stout. Aged on American oak to add some light toasty vanilla to the mix.

I really have to commend DFH for presenting this interesting new take on a timeless style. I was honestly getting tired of the Bourbon Barrel Age thing. Man, what a difference one small ingredient (syrah grapes) really makes.

Pours black. Smells deeply of wine. Tastes of chocolate, cocoa, and port wine. Subtle sweetness and tanins. ultimately a wonderful beer that I can't believe came in a 4-pk. Superb

On tap. It's an imperial stout with Syrah grape must.
Looks great, black with a brown head, good lacing.
Aroma is strongly sweet, dark fruits and chocolate roast.
Taste follows with dark plum and cherry flavors, roasted malt and chocolate. Some boozy whiskey/wine aroma and flavors as well. Strong bitter dark chocolate finish.
Feels smooth and full, with a lingering dryness. Dry like cocoa powder, but not in a bad way.

Nice, complex and very tasty stout!

Black beer with a decent head for being an imperial stout. Thick viscous beer with a malty, musty, fruity, almost plum like stench. Where this one really shines is the grape/fruity berry flavor on the taste. The roasted malt and a dark caramel-like flavor are present, but this beer sets itself at a higher bar with the rich fruit and velvet smooth taste. A little sticky of a finish but rich. It does have a sort of wine characteristic to it. The uniqueness makes it outstanding, and although the price is high this beer rules and is one of my favorites, ever.

Bold, fruity, spicy and with a little twang; the beer madmen at Dogfish just can't leave well enough alone. Oak aging, syrah and a roasty attitude are just the start of a complex but characterful session.

Siracusa Nera pours with the creamy espresso color and layered with a billowing tarnish foam, the stout fills the nose with dark roast coffee, cocoa, walnut and a kiss of red wine. Flavors of caramel and toffee all seem over cooked, bringing a seared and slightly scorched sweetness to the coffee and cocoa frontrunners.

As the imperial stout opens up, its sweetness turns to char and the notes of macerated fruit come about as the beer warms. Espresso, baker's chocolate and the char of campfire carry and arid sense of roasty dryness while the twang of red wine comes with plum, blackberry and cherry nuance. Walnut and oak come in late with a nutty, woodsy taste which invites the lightness of caramel and vanilla in complement.

Full, lush and viscous on the palate, the stout dries to a malty dry status for a sense of drinkability because of its oaken and roasted dryness, grape acidity and understated hop bitterness. Warming with coffee liquor, the finish is spicy with hints of fennel and peppercorn that leads into a long and roasty aftertaste.

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, beige head of foam. It smelled of chocolate, coffee and grapes. Kinda had some red wine-like tasted with the traditional coffee, chocolate and toffee of a RIS. I liked it more than I expected.

This is the best expression of wine with beer. The oak from the barrel mixed with a creamy stout that is balanced perfectly, no sharp bitterness, no overly smokey stout profile. Just a sexy beer you should definitely buy and drink. It might be a decent beer to age given the wine flavors in it, but nah drink it :).

The beer pours out the darkest brown almost black color, with 2 fingers of creamy mocha colored head---------------- the aromas are of roasted dark malts, coffee, dark fruits and milk chocolate---------------- the flavors are of bittersweet red grapes, oak, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, red wine, earthy spice, dark fruit and red berries, the beer has a medium mouthfeel with a silky smooth finish hiding the 10% completely----------------- overall this beer was delicious, I'm berry impressed with this one wile it Wasent the thickest most fudgy stout, it was complex had a lot of different elements going on that all seemed to work perfect together

12 oz bottle, dated 10/11/17, poured into a snifter

A- Black with a two finger mocha head.

S- Grapes, berries, some chocolate, roasted coffee, roasted coffee.

T- Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, some oak, dark grapes, touch of tart fruits.

M- Smooth, medium to full body.

O- Smells good, but the taste is a little weak. Feel like it would be a little better if there was a little less grape must.

Our is jet black, tan head, aromas are dark chocolate, char. and ripe grapes.

These aromas carry over to the taste, but they seem to battle a bit. The base stout is tasty, but the grape must sits outside that base beer, and competes with the stout flavors a bit.

Glad I tried it, and I rated it fairly high, but this could’ve been world-class if the blueberry fit better with the base beer.

12 oz bottle poured into Tallgrass globe snifter. Bottled September 2018.

Purplish black color with a beige-maroon head of 2 fingers. Really unique and nice.

I get oak and charred malt and slight funk on the nose, with slight jammy raspberry notes and berry acidity.

I get a lot charred malt on the tongue, followed by dark berries, some odd musty funky moldy raspberry, wet oak, slight bubble gum, bakers cocoa, and a finish of dark toast.

Feel is medium bodied with slight creaminess but mostly roast; moderate carbonation, slight alcohol heat, roasty finish.

Overall, I didn't care for this one really at all. This was much too weird for me, and I usually like weird.

12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 9/27/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, currant, berries, red grape/wine, toasted oak, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of vanilla, licorice, wood smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, herbal, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts; and light-moderate grape must, earthy hops, fruity yeast, and oak notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, currant, berries, red grape/wine, toasted oak, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of vanilla, licorice, wood smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, herbal, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, woody, herbal, peppery hop; roast, charcoal bitterness; and slight grape tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted nuts, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, dark fruit, cherry, currant, berries, red grape/wine, toasted oak, dark bread/crust, vanilla, licorice, wood smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, herbal, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish fora while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts; and light-moderate grape must, earthy hops, fruity yeast, and oak flavors; with a great hop/char bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, fairly sticky/chalky, and lightly tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 10%. Overall this is an awesome fruited Russian imperial stout. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts; and light-moderate grape must, earthy hops, fruity yeast, and oak flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV with the modestly bitter/drying finish. Not overly aggressive. Awesomely rich malt complexity and balancing earthy hops; with complementing grape must, fruity yeast notes that aren't overwhelming at all. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on base style example. Was expecting more grape character initially, but what they ended up with was really impressive. Will age/mellow nicely on the hop character, and bring out more dark fruit complexity.

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a dense finger of dark tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of deep red wine, roasted malts, chocolate and a little coffee
T: Taste is roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee, red wine, currants, and a little oak. Swallow is red wine, dark chocolate, roasted malts, cocoa powder, and some slight lingering coffee.
M: This beer has a fairly full body with a slightly sticky feel on the palate. Carbonation is just below prickly and adequate for the style while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really tasty beer. The barrels and the grape must add a nice complementary set of flavors to the beer that make it very enjoyable to drink. Well executed and really good complexity on this one. Definitely worth a try if you don't mind beer with a little wine influence.
