Look : One finger brown head, solid black body.

Smell : See below.

Taste : Dark chocolate, coffee, gesho (kind of a white grape flavor I've tasted in Tej), mild nuttiness.

Feel : Full body, medium carbonation, dry finish.

Poured into a standard pub glass, enjoyed with a home-cooked Churrasco style flank steak.

--Look: Solid stout appearance with a big, full head, nothing out of the ordinary; moderate lacing gives way to a thin sheath of smooth foam; head retention was decent, but not exceptional
--Smell: The aroma is not super strong, but has a sharpness to it; heavy on wood, cocoa, black cherries; slight bit of molasses
--Taste: This is where shit goes off the rails... The flavor is sharp and bold initially; strong flavors of cocoa and starfruit(?!) with an oaky, semi-malty background (though not quite as malty as I would have hoped); intensity drops off abruptly after about 15-20 seconds to give way to a mellow, smokey finish with a woody, slightly medicinal aftertaste.
--Feel: Medium-large body that starts with a sharpness, but soon smooths out, giving way to a slight tingling sensation which I kind of liked. Moderate carbonation with a fine bubble texture.

This is a really weird beer. I like it a lot, but it definitely has something different going on. The first sip I took really caught me off guard with its roller-coaster ride antics. It took a couple more sips for me to be able to really break it down and figure out what was happening. I think its the combination of its unexpected shift from the initial bite to the buzzing, smokey after-glow, and the inexplicable presence of the starfruit flavor that left me so shocked. This stuff surely lives up to its wild, yet smooth Jazz namesake.

Bottled in May, 2018. Dogfish Head Wood-Aged Bitches Brew has a thin, ivory head, a very dark brown, cola appearance, and virtually no glass lacing. Aroma is not too bountiful, but one can pick up syrup, char, & sweet, dark-roasted malt. Taste is of the same elements, with maybe some coffee. Mouthfeel is high medium, and Wood-Aged Bitches Brew finishes oddly dry, in fact.

It pours a viscous dark mahogany, nearly black, color, with a thumbnail length tan foamy head. Decent head retention for a high ABV brew, along with a creamy film that lingers throughout.
The aroma is of earthy wood, dark fruit, biscuit malt, dark caramel and cocoa. Notes of mint, anise, and grass add an interesting mix.
Interesting and tasty complexity. Moderately roasted malts that drink smooth and not too harsh. Bittersweet dark chocolate, dark caramel and honey. Earthy hops add a moderate bitterness as well as a bright and slightly citrusy flavor. The wood aged element adds an oaky quality. Interesting flavors coming from the yeast; clove like phenols and tart cherry esters. A lightly charred malt, slightly smoky, and bitter espresso bean finish that is dry.
Viscous, robust, creamy and smooth. The alcohol is masked beautifully and is unbelievably drinkable! Moderate carbonation. Although it is full bodied, it somehow drinks lighter.
I had and liked the original Bitches Brew a while ago, although I can’t remember every detail to compare it with the wood aged version. I really liked this version nevertheless. Delicious stuff from DFH.

Very interesting beer. Nice very dark brown, almost black color with a little tan head that dissipates and just a scant amount of spotty lingering lacing. Smells of raisin, wood, a little caramel, vanilla and grain. Tastes similarly, except also with some mild coffee and faint hints of chocolate and malt. Smooth mild mouthfeel with decent carbonation. Not a bad beer to sip and enjoy but a little disappointing based on its reputation and reviews.

Had on tap. My dog would enjoy chewing on the light wood flavor in this beer. Have to say I like the original better, but this is not bad, just very woody to the point of losing some nuance of the original. Smell is a little more bearable in the balance, but still plenty of wood with the malt. Nothing bad, just wish it jived better with the supporting ingredients in the taste
