Appearance: Pours coffee colored with a full one finger of tan foam; decent retention and splashy lace

Smell: Chocolate and Palo Santo wood, with honey and a tart currant tone

Taste: The Palo Santo wood dominates the first impression, with chocolate and tart currants emerging; the honey builds, through the middle; the wood re-emerges to drive home the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: An interesting stout, though I am not floored by the Palo Santo wood treatment like I was the first time I tried Palo Santo Marron

Look - Thick black syrup with a very slight disappearing head and some skimming
Smell - Sweet caramel toffee toasty woody
Taste - You can really taste that palo santo wood which is very distinct like you'll find in the Marron. This one has black licorice slight vanilla sweetness
Feel - Medium body with a slight fizz carbonation
OVerall - That Palo Santo wood really changes the beer and makes it original. I wish I had the non wood version to compare to see if I like it more. This is a great beer though and very different.

This one is a bit different.
Look- Pours dark. Little head that goes away quick.
Smell- I don’t have a great sense of smell but I get the smell of burnt wood
Taste-initial taste is a good bite but the after taste is a dry mouth sort of feel like the wood zaps any other flavors
Feel-certainly has a lot of punch on the tongue! I can’t quite make out the flavors buts got a punch. Not sweet!
Overall-it has good deep woody flavor, line a wood barrel would give it, says on bottle with honey but I can only see that just st the beginning, the wood flavor over comes it quick, doesn’t feel sweet much at all. Quite a complex taste. It’s good but not a fan.

After a long hiatus from stouts picked this Bitches Brew. Nice to see the deep dark pour with a small caramel colored head. The nose was a bit odd to me, fruit but a bit off. But the taste and feel had a crispness I didn’t expect from a stout. Had the chocolate, honey and fruit come though as well. And the woodiness comes through at the end. This was a pleasant return to the stout. Had to come back to say, once this beer warms up a bit, it improves all the way around. Glad I’ve got 5 more bottles to work on.

Dark fruits, overripe almost cloying, drying wood, alcohol heat, honey and umami. A bit disjointed. Perhaps this needs age to integrate.

Date: 05/25/18, tried on 11/17/18.

Appearance: Pours a deeper black than I would have thought with a finger and a half of mocha colored head.

Aroma: Chocolate malts, chilled honey, a floral element, and something that almost reminds me of milk. It doesn't sound very complex or interesting, but I like it.

Taste: It follows the nose closely and the unexpected milk like aroma is here on the taste as well, though it doesn't have that lactose sweetness. There is some roasted malt flavors, but they are really kept in check by the silky milk flavor. The honey is also moving around in here, but more in flavor than sticky sweet mouthfeel. Additionally, the texture is very smooth and silky as well. This one is a little hard to classify, but I am enjoying it. Far too often Dogfish Head has great ideas that don't always translate to great beers, but after some mixed reviews, I decided to give this a try and I am pleasently surprised. As it warms, a slight woody barrel character is noticeable, but not as much as their excellent Palo Santo Marron.
