Style: Pumpkin Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
A full-bodied brown ale with smooth hints of pumpkin and brown sugar. We brew our Punkin Ale with pumpkin meat, brown sugar and spices. As the season cools, this is the perfect beer to warm up with.

Punkin Ale is named after the seriously off-centered southern Delaware extravaganza Punkin Chunkin (check out some of these Discovery Channel videos of Punkin Chunkin, you gotta see it to believe it!). In fact, Punkin Ale made its debut as it claimed first prize in the 1994 Punkin Chunkin Recipe Contest. Yes, that was a full 6 months before we even opened our doors for business!

Look: Deep orange in color
Smell: cinnamon and nutmeg come in strong
Taste: an interesting blend of pumpkin spice and malt flavor. I like the brown ale as a back to the pumpkin beer
Feel: smooth like pumpkin pie, perfect feel for the seasonal flavors

One of the better pumpkin beers I have had this season.

pours relatively light copper with virtually no head. nose is light pumpkin with lots of cinnamon and all spice. taste is folloWing the nose with malt and cinnamon leading the way followed by more spice and finishing with lingering cinnamon and allspice. I dunno. most pumpkin ales seem to go crazy on the cinnamon and nutmeg and allspice and the same goes for this one. im not sure why more beers are not like pumpking. this one seems to light and spice forward. not great. not good. not worth it.

Good beer, not too sweet like most mass-produced pumpkin beers. That being said, as a young person, in a blind taste test i'm not too sure i'd have known it was a pumpkin style beer. Definitely has good spice..nutmeg & a little cinnamon flavor to it though.

L - Dark Golden, tiny 1cm head but retention seems good. Very lively and fizzy.

S - Sweet/Roasty with spices, cloves, cinnamon, not very hoppy

T - Spicier than it smells. Not overly pumpkiny, but good enough to get the point across. Tastes very light for a 7% ABV

F - The lively bubbles don't bite too much - very smooth feel with little warmth

O - For a pumpkin/fall beer, this goes down great. The flavor and scent aren't overpowering, and I can imagine it would pair well with any fall foods. Goes down like a 5-6% as well.

Delicious. A murky burnt sienna, smells and tastes of squash (pumpkin -- duh), ginger, pumpkin pie spice and bread. A lovely creamy mouthfeel, very good.
