A: Bright amber/ yellow-orange in color and topped with an off white head which has pretty good retention and decent lacing.

S: candied ginger and some spice (mild black and green pepper?).

T: lightly sweet flavors softly hit the tongue reminiscent of white rock candy and subtle earthy spice. The ginger is there but very mellow and sweet not spicy. This is finishing somewhere in the off dry realm for me. A tad too sweet but drinkable nonetheless.

M: Soft and delicate.

O: Kind of an underwhelming beer all in all. I like the addition of ginger to beer but I would actually like to see something like thai ginger (with a big dose of heat) incorporated.

Poured out a bubbly golden amber color, with a large dark cream colored head. The nose was sweet, almost sugary. There was some spice present, and ginger. the taste offered hops, malty sweetness, spice, ginger, and candi. Highly carbonated mouthfeel, with a slightly syrupy texture.

A - Pours a pretty, slighty murky, bright burnt orange. Nice off white head leaves pretty quick to disk, leaving lots of spotty lace.

S - Belgian yeast, malt and ginger is apparent. Nice.

T - Sweet malt to Begian yeast to spiced twang at end that I am not sure of.

M - Good carb, but don't know if I like the spice finish and aftertaste.

D - Fun beer to try, very different.

(750ml bottle). Pours apricot color with white head and very active carbonation. Aroma has ginger, something grainy (the rice), and florals. Taste is sweet, but delicate. There is a nice amount of body considering how light it is. Sticky mouthfeel and slight bite on the tongue from ginger and hops. Overall, this is a nice experiment.

The aromas are heavy on the ginger, and spices, but a bit of yeastiness and hops come through in the aroma as well. The taste is a nice blend of sweet ginger flavors, contradicting malt flavors, and subtle, floral hops. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth and the drinkability is great. This may not be a very complex beer, or one of DFH's best, but this does have a nice full aroma, and it is quite easy to drink.

Out of a 750ml capped bottle. Pours a golden honey color, slight haze, with a soapy pure white head that settled into a solid ring. The aroma is of the sweet and herbal ginger, some pepper and clove. The taste is similar to the aroma. Noticable ginger flavor hits forefront. The ginger gives the brew a herbal quality. Plenty of sugary sweetness along with a spicy belgian yeast strain. Some clove, pepper, and green apple along with a grassy hop, a bit similar to a saison. An enjoyable flavor, I think I actually dig ginger in beers. Moderate body with tingly carbonation, sweet throughout with a very light bitter bit at the end. A touch sticky. A nice BSPA, perhaps too sugary and not enough yeasty goodness but very enjoybable. The ginger adds a nice touch.

2008 Release

A- Poured into a DFH snifter... small head consisting of lots of larger bubbles that disappears quickly... no lacing. Beer is very orange in color with very fine sediment in it and light activity

S- Smells pretty typical of a belgian pale ale... can't really smell any of the odd additives IMO. Hint of alcohol

T- Tastes less sweet than I thought it would. Starts with a light malty sweetness, ginger, bit cinnamony. Finishes kind of dry and bitter

M- Very little carbonation, lighter bodied, watery

D- Very easy to drink beer, though I don't think I would spend the money for another. Definately not DFH's best creation

CHEERS!!

A: Poured light orange and clear into the glass with more than one finger of thick frothy head and a steady stream of tiny bubbles of carbonation. Respectable lacing.

S: The ginger jumps right out along with candy sugar. Lots of spice and herbal notes. Licorice, white pepper, yeast. Fruitiness too, peaches. I get some pink bubblegum also.

T: Faint ginger taste all the way through. Like a weak ginger beer. Bread in the middle, almost like a weak sourdough or basic baguette. Some mild herbal and grassy hop notes in the middle. Not much bitterness at all. Not overly sweet but spicy and some caramel sweetness near the end. I do get fresh fruits like pear and peach. Ginger is noticeable in the end as it warms.

M: Thicker and heavier but not really chewy.

O: This is Dogfish. Its as advertised and over the top with the ginger. Makes for an interesting brew to sip in the fall or winter when you want to spice up the cold. Best shared. For me the ginger was a bit overwhelming, but what do you expect from the label. Interesting to try. I found I liked this beer the more I drank it and as it warmed. Definitely an occasion beer.

I drank this beer fresh, i will buy one to age and compare results.

Appearance: Poured a Hazy, yellow, peachy color with a huge fluffy white head.

Smell: I picked up a lot of smells, but mostly a peach/apricot smell.

Taste: Nice balanced taste little warming in the head, some nice peach/apricot type flavor even a little bubblegum flavor.

Mouthfeel. A creamy, carbonated mouthfeel with a alcohol warming in the end

Drinkability: Very nice and interesting beer. Nice beer to enjoy with others!

Enjoyed at Tops, poured into a snifter. A very worldly brew, Pangaea was crafted using ingredients from all seven continents. To wit: crystallized ginger from Australia, water from Antarctica, basmati rice from Asia, muscavado sugar from Africa, quinoa from South America, maize from North America and European yeast.

The color of pale wheat in the sunshine, with a very, very slight haze. One finger of fizzy, sticky white head becomes a soapy top layer.

Ginger is the first and foremost aroma, but is soon met with a breadiness. Together, it’s like flatbread drizzled with honey and ginger. Graininess in the back.

Ginger, red apple slices and wheat blend in the flavor. Very mild, earthy hops. Quick flash of honey before a clean, crackery finish.

Pillow-soft medium body is like licking goose down, and is the best part of this beer. Gentle tingles of carbonation pepper the tongue, breaking into just a little fizz. Alcohol is bigger than expected, flaming through the nose.

For all the ingredients in here, this isn’t nearly complex enough. A good idea from Dogfish Head, but something’s missing in the execution.

Amber/orange body with less than a half an inch of head and little noticeable carbonation or lacing. Smells citrusy, spicey, and like vanilla. Tastes like citrus, vanilla, and spice. Other flavors are there too, though I can't really put my finger on them - honey? floral? A rather complex beer. On the lighter side of medium bodied. A fairly clean finish. Very tasty. Not sure it's worth the 11$ per bottle, but a tasty complex brew that was well-worth trying. Neat idea too. Go DFH!

Poured into a snifter to reveal clear amber-colored body with a decently-sized but quickly fading head and good bubbling. Smells like sweet corn and farmhouse funk, gingery cirtus notes and sunshine (if you could smell sunshine, it would be in this beer). Basically smells a lot like a saison-type.

Tastes very unoffensive and light. Carbonation is there but fades fast to leave a light, watery malty (and maybe some other grain?) body with the hints of candied ginger as advertised. There is a slight sourness, a nudge from the peppery ginger and gentle hoppy bitterness, but nothing strong to the flavors. I was kinda hoping for more taste in general, but what's there is very agreeable. Maybe if they aged it in casks or something...

Mouthfeel: smooth, slippery and slightly carbonated, but not too sweet. Seriously drinkable, but more because it's mild than because it's omgmusthavemore delicious. I liked it. I'd try it again in a different form.

750ml brown bottle. Bottled in 2008. Obtained at The Lighthouse in Manchester, ME and shared with BA member MrHurmateeowish. pours a clear amber color with a half inch of off white head that quickly dissipated. scents of chocolate malts, caramel, toffee, a bit of hops. tastes of caramel, toffee, tinge of chocolate, herbal and woody quality, and hoppy. moderate carbonation. its very different than what i have tried in the past, but quite impressed with the beer. two thumbs up!

Cheers!

Bottled on 10/30/06

Pours a crystal clear light carmel. Little to no head, virtualy no lacing. Solid stream of bubbles coming up through the middle of the bottom of the glass.

Light smell, ginger in there. Citrus, is that grapefruit? Maybe some alcohol and hops, too tough to tell. Was expecting more.

Not much going on. Something fresh about the taste, crisp. Citrus, ginger, grapefruit, maybe some hops finish. Something different and bitter at the end.

Feels nice, nothing overt about it. Dare I call it boring. Most likely it needs to age a good bit more.

Not sure I would seek out this beer. Glad I tried it once, but not something I think I would search for. I do have another from this batch which will spend some time away from friends :)
