330ml bottle, 4½ years old, lets see what age has done to this'n

Absolutely black, tiny ring of bubbles surround the trim of the glass. Smells like booze-soaked dark fruits covered in dark chocolate. The taste is much the same, but booze-forward with additional wood/oak/char flavors. Almost like a Belgian Strong with an Imperial Chocolate Porter poured into it. The yeast has either melded into and/or faded behind the huge malt flavors. Has a medium feel, light for a stout, and a decent amount of carbonation considering the age. Easy to drink considering the ABV

Solid beer through and through. The age has mellowed the dark fruit characteristics and made this into an even better beer

Where do we start?......

Oh the Look.

Pours a jet black stout with coffee coloured head, not too dissimilar to Guinness West Indies Porter.....but that is where the similarities ends, different league.

Aroma is very good, ripened fruit, mainly fig with a twist of malt.

Taste is sublime, fully loaded on the tongue... Coffee, Malt, Sweet Fig, a multitude of spices... This is a belter.

Feel is cracking, sooooo smooth, like velvet. Imagine the best Guinness you have ever had and double it!, silky.

Hides the 9% so well, this is one of the best beers available in my opinion..... That said you have to be a fan of porters and stout to get this.

A class act.......way way better than the 3.78 BA average....???

Poured into snifter.

Beautiful nose of dark fruit and chocolate. Taste follows, includes a dark maltiness. Layered and rich.

Mouth is very smooth, a little bitter, and only slightly boozy at the end.

Fantastic artistry. A great bear from a great brewery.

Poured from fridge temp. Quite black with good carbonation. Nose is subtle, not what I was expecting from a stout. A bit smoky and malty. Taste is nice. I now get tobacco, lots of licorice, smoked wood, and sweetness. No detectable bitterness to me. Feel is nice and creamy. Overall a great beer.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a black color with a one finger off white to tan foamy head that dissipated gracefully and leaving a small cap of a head. Lacing seemed structured and clingy roaming all around the glass and spider webs nicely. The smell starts off with dark fruits over top of some sweet Belgian sugars. Light clove slides in to spice things up a bit. The taste was moderately sweet with a nice bitter and roasty underscore of the Belgian spices/clove. Subtle dark fruity aftertaste. Quick dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body. Makes for a nice sipper. Carbonation feels good as a Belgian Stout. Overall, very nicely done Belgian stout.

Like the label says, it's black. I can usually find some highlights in these dark brews but this one's black from top to bottom and side to side. Voluminous Belgian style tan cap with moderate lacing.

Aroma of dark plums and dark cherries. Not the bright red sweet little cherries but the big, bold dark ripe ones. I know there's dark malt in there (natch) and hops but don't really catch either in the scent.

Taste is big and bold, plummy, jammy and rasiny with the cherries still hanging in there. Roast malt coffee like bitterness shows up in the aftertaste as if an afterthought. There is a prickliness in the mouth feel that may be hops or carbonation but I suspect the latter.

Full textured body with balancing carbonation.

Definite alcohol whang in this brew (9%) that isn't apparent in the aroma or flavor. I only noticed after drinking a bit and then it was in effect, not in flavor. Overall it's a fairly simple group of several flavor sensations that harmonize well but don't elevate to brew to the level of complex sophistication. I'm sure the house Guinness fan will like it.

Pours jet black with a tan head
Aroma: cherry, raisin, roast, chocolate, pepper
Taste: yeast, cherry, mild roast
Slightly disappointing, although tasty. The yeast gives off a bit too much artificial cherry flavor for my liking. The combo of roast and yeast in interesting, but I feel like the right formula isn't quite here.
