11.2 oz bottle poured into a Brasserie de Silly tulip glass. Best before date of 2015-01-07.

Appearance: A down the side pour produces a couple fingers of slowly fizzing, khaki colored head. Fluffy with lots of bubbles. Clear, burgundy colored body.

Aroma: Sweet vinous notes of cherries, cranberries, plums and cinnamon. Some grassy earthy/funkyness. Lots of nice vanilla oak. Slightly acedic.

Taste: Rich vinous notes of tangy cherry juice, ripe oranges and plums with a nice funk in the middle. Soft doughy Munich malt finish. There’s a nice oak wine barrel behind all the dominant fruit notes. Moderately acidic and tart.

Mouthfeel: Prickly carbonation with a medium feel. Almost cloying.

Overall: Lots of fruity sweetness but tastefully held back by the nice funkyness, acidic bite and pleasant barrel notes. The comparisons to red wine make sense. I wouldn’t mind trying an older bottle to see if the sweetness takes a step back to more acidic/sour notes.

Split a 750ml bottle among a group.

A: very dark red and clear pour, a finger of head that rapidly dissipates into the beer leaving some good lacing on the glass.

S: slightly acetic tart, fruits and some oaky/woody notes.

T: tart fruits, not super tart, but a nice acetic tart. Very clean taste.

M: crisp and clean. Nice and bubbly too.

O: great mildly tart beer.
