Gold in color with a fingernail of dishwater white on top. Moderate lacing. The aroma is of pungent piney hops. The first sip confirms that this is a bold, West coast piney hop bomb. There's a lengthy deep hop burn to the tongue that lingers well past the fade. The mouth is lightly sticky and chewy.

12oz. bottle: This one pours an orangish golden color. There was a small off white head on it. Good nose. Pine, grapefruit ans some grassy hop notes. Taste is good. Somewhat bitter, good malt body, Pine and grapefruit hop flavors. Decent brew!

Initial impression from a bottle purchased as part of a sixer in Colby, Kansas:

Brewed with "Columbus, Centennial, and Citra hops." "Unfiltered." "India Pale Ale." Best by portion of label is unnotched.

03/14/18 impression from yet another bottle of the sixer I bought:

Floral hop flavour combines with pale malt sweetness to form a balanced IPA. Hop profile is underwhelming but competent.

Drinkable and enjoyable, though not up there with the best in the style.

Look: hazy golden with a thin white head

Smell: fresh and full of citrus

Taste: hoppy citrus with a respectable malt backbone that keeps things balanced.

Feel: dry with medium high carbonation

Overall: a very good IPA from Free State, it won't blow you away but it can hold its own in the world of IPAs. 7.5%abv 68ibu

Edit: 2nd around, more citrus. Will slightly bump up my taste score & overall

Pours an effervescent gold with 3 fingers of pearl colored head, hazes a bit. Good head retention & lacing

S: Breadyness, a little leafy hop

T: Sweet breadyness, pears, faint pomelo up front, along with cattyness. Grassy/catty as this warms, dryness as well, some woody hops . Finishes dry with a little tangerine & breadyness

MF: Medium bodym restrained carbonation, nice balance

Not bad, was wanting a little more malt to balance it out better

Appearance is golden and hazy...looks delicious.
Smell grapefruit is what stands out to me.
Taste is definitely bright citrus and light on malt. Grapefruit hop character stands out
Feel is crisp and refreshing, not malty so a little like a session IPA but not that light.
Overall a very enjoyable IPA that I will likely purchase again.

Pale straw color transparent yet an unfiltered haze. Moderate head retention, thick lace clinging to the glass.
From the cold start aroma of sweet grains, warming doesn't produce much more other than some resinous hops.
Flavor however transforms dramatically producing tropical fruit flavors, floral earthy hops that eventually finish as bitter grapefruit.
Full body feel, carbonation lacking a bit, not sure how old this bottle is, it came back from a friend's travels and the date code on the label is not clearly marked.
I could have used a few more of these to really 'dial in' my review.

A fruity fruit stand color of peach and golden apple, with a quickly diminishing 1 finger head.

Some orange and pineapple aromas amidst some powder aromas, and furthermore like coring stone fruits.

Flavor is pleasantly resiny with some very bright and juicy fruity notes - namely orange and tropical; basically pineapple cores, mango, papaya, orange pith, and the faintest of grapefruit rind. I was not expecting the flavor profile to jump out at me this much. Bittering notes and slight oils and resin complete the finish.

A very tight, firm carbonation on this one, with tons of popping effervescence.

Overall, a highly recommended IPA. Totally wasn't expecting this. It's not really a fruit bomb or even close caliber-wise, but it's got a solid foundation of equality between resins, oils, tropical fruits, and pale malts. Very well done.

Clear golden with micro carbonation leading to a one finger white foam cap

Aroma of citrus, pine

Taste of citrus , pine and whisper of floral notes

Suds up on the first sip. Not a strong bite but the bitterness has a slight linger

Good beer

Pours a straw yellow with a little bit of fog to it. Head forms a finger high, and in off-white color. Fair head retention is a few patches of lacing left behind. Aroma is hoppy, with notes of citrus, floral, and pine. Flavor profile is very similar, with a citrus opening, and a floral hop finish. While it's well balanced, it does lean on the more bitter side of the IPA spectrum. Mouth feel is definitely carbonated, with a fizzy feel. Thickness is medium-thin. Overall, it's a fair IPA. The fizzy feel and slightly bitter finish keep it from being an easy gulping beer, but otherwise it's nice.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

Appearance: Pours a hazy lemonade color; a two inch head rests upon the liquid; good retention and spotty lacing action

Smell: Mandarin orange and mango tones burst forward

Taste: As in the aroma, the Mandarin orange and mango is very prominent in the front, with a slight sweetness developing; a lime-toned bitterness arrives, with the swallow and is complementary, rather than overpowering, enabling the sweeter, fruity tones to carry through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; very bright

Overall: I don't think I have before encountered an IPA with a strong Mandarin orange character; I think this is terrific and while it is nothing like a NE IPA the juiciness has clearly been influenced by that style

Thanks, jmueller216, for the opportunity

A milky appearance with generous lacing and an inverted tornado looking head. Interesting.
The aroma is AH-Mazing to someone who lives for a great IPA! Skunky, Stinky, and Bold!
I honestly felt upon sniffing ... "THIS IS IT!"
Surprisingly upon sipping and swishing the hops are not exactly what takes over! This is even MORE interesting I am thinking ....
Rather a smooth mild mouth feel with mild carbonation, no real zap in the face sharpness from hops - and shockingly NOT shunky or bitter! What IS this mind melding brew before me?
On the back and sides of the tongue is where the bitterness of the hops sits for the most part imparting a slight drool to take place.
Notes of orange peel sit on the middle of my palette.
Being from Kansas I am proud of Free State for making this brew. A great way to introduce friends to a well rounded IPA without scaring them off!
Overall a mouth watering IPA - quite literally - with each sip the mouth tingles slightly and is so refreshing you do tend to develop some extra saliva!
Personally I prefer a little more POW to my IPA's and want more hoppiness in the flavor but I am enjoying this mild IPA and would absolutely buy again - and I shall - SOON!

Pours a hazy, golden color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of strong piney hops, resin, sweet malt, slight earthy malt, slight alcohol, and a hint of citrus. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of earthy malt, strong citrus hops, strong piney hops, slight yeast, hint of citrus, and sweet malt. Overall, good appearance, decent aroma, body, and blend.

Pours a clear straw color, where the hazinesd settles in after pouring, with a one finger white head. Aroma is huge citrus, tropical fruits, earth, and dank notes. Taste is citrus, tropical fruits, pine, earth, and vegetal qualities. Mouthfeel is thin to medium and a little bit oily for an ipa. Overall, a decent unfiltered ipa that would be great on a cool spring day.

This is not overly hoppy or in your face. A very balanced piney and citrusy IPA. Tastes like a cousin of Boulevard's The Calling (it's fantastic this region is producing IPAs of this style and quality). A very tasty 7.5% brew that's a great value in a $8.50 six pack. I hope this will become a regular yearly offering from Free State.

S - Piney hops with floral notes.

T - Bitter hop bite up front with smooth caramel maltiness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale.

D - Another really nice IPA from Free State.

Pours a nearly glowing yellow. Dank pine, indistinguishable but full backing tropical fruit aroma. Smells follow through in the flavor with more recognizable lemon. Some surprisingly toasted malt character (given the color) rounds out the substantial bitterness. Definitely try this if you find it fresh. This may sound hyperbolic, but at ~6% ABV it's a more sessionable version of Stone Enjoy-By. Best Free State beer yet for me!

Aroma is fairly catty, with dank resiny notes and a plethora of muddled tropical and citrus fruits. Grapefruit dominates and mixes with pine and grass.

Flavor is very fruit forward, finishing bitter and resiny, with an earthy aftertaste. The fruit is fairly muddled. Notes of grapefruit, mango, pineapple, Mandarin oranges, and lime emerge as it warms. Malt is fairly nutty and toasted and complements well.

Poured into a Free State tumbler.

Look: Hazy golden straw colored body with a white head that recedes to a bubbly film. Light spots of lacing.

Aroma: Lots of citrus -- grapefruit and orange. Dry, spicy, piny hops.

Taste: Citrus bursts onto the tongue. A woody cedar note follows. Grapefruit rind in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, dry.

Overall: If you like bitter and lots of citrus, this is your beer. Enjoyable, but I wish I knew the ABV.
