Style: Kölsch

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Being located in the biggest wheat producing state in the nation, a refreshing wheat beer is a must-brew. The Wheat State Golden is usually our lightest beer. It is fashioned after the Kolsch beers made around Cologne. It is traditionally brewed in the Alt Style like our Ad Astra Ale and has about 25% wheat malt. There is just a touch of caramel malt to add the golden color, and the rest is pale malt. The Golden is lightly hopped with Yakima Perle for bittering, and Hallertau Hersbrucker hops for aroma.

Sampling right now on 6/4/14. Bought this single last weekend while down in Lawrence, Kansas (where the brewery & restaurant is where we ate on 5/30).

Pours a clear golden-yellow in color with about a 1/2-finger white head that settles down to around the edges of the glass after a while. Spotty lacing is seen with each sip. The aroma is of grains and grass. The taste is about the same with a hint of sweetness also. Very easy to drink with no bitter or harsh after taste at all. Really like this one and was tasty on tap last weekend at their brewery/restaurant.

Brilliant golden hue and excellent clarity. A quarter inch of tightly knit off white head rests on top. Aroma is is pale wheat and kolsch yeast which gives it a bit of a Saltine cracker aroma. The flavor closely mimics the aroma with pale wheat and the Saltine cracker profile. The body is smooth and yet moderately carbonated.
