Picked up a bottle of this beer and tried it after a week in the fridge. Interesting enough, I had to smell this beer about 4 or 5 times to pick up on a scent, but it was like coffee with creamer when I found it. Taste was more bitter than expected, with coffee, roasted nuts, malt and hops. Taste while a little bitter, was smooth and pleasant-- very consistent thru the whole mouthful, feel was not over carbonated, nor was dry at all. Overall, refreshing with a slight aftertaste.

This is the first time I have seen this beer in my area, and was a good example of a Schwarzbier. I would buy (or drink) this again for sure.

16oz can, appears to have both a best by (2017.07.07) and canning date (2016.07.07)
A - dark near black body with ruby edges and a creamy tan head
S - roasted malt, creamed coffee, baker's chocolate
T - big roasty flavors, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, black tea, faint caramel and nut, yeast, earthy hops
M - thinner body, yet exceptionally creamy, finishes dry and astringent beckoning another sip for exquisite easy drinking
O - I always love this beer. I had this early on when beer drinking and tasting sparked my interest. It's always great to come back to! A must try!

330ml bottle poured into a Weizen glass. Pours a black-dark brown color, with a small tan-brown head which settles to a film and leaves a little lacing as the beer is drank.
Smell: smells of tastes malt and a little nutty. A hint of hop but not overwhelming.
Taste: tastes pretty good, a sweet bread-like maltiness, followed by a mild bitter taste of hops. Very drinkable, but feels like it is missing something.
Feel: medium-light body. Average carbonation. Again, very drinkable Black Lager.
Overall, this beer is pretty good; it's very drinkable. I believe it is the benchmark for this style
of beer. I will buy this again.

Pours a deep black color. Nice tan head on top followed by some cloudy residue down the glass. Slightly metallic on the nose. A bit of a nutty nose, including walnuts. Taste is decent. A bit watery and thin body. Roasted cocoa malts. Pleasent toffee on the palate and well balanced. Easy to drink and a decent, not great, session beer.

Been wanting to try this for years - happy to see it available now! Best before 1/27/2017; poured from a 500mL bottle into my Ayinger Celebrator pokal.

Very clear burnt umber body with a khaki surface slick and a lasting collar. Average retention (not great for the style); even, sandy lacing.

Sweet bready malt aromatics with a hint of sulfur - without being able to articulate exactly why, this reminds me of some baltic porters I've had as well. Low but persistent roast character throughout is 99% pleasant, but with a vanishing impression of stale hotel room or freshly used ashtray...

Moderately malty with touches of black bread, caraway, and iron. Earthy finish with just a whisper of smoke and maybe a hint of diacetyl. Clean, medium bitterness. No acrid/burnt or husky notes.

Light-bodied but very smooth with adequate almost chewy carbonation that leaves the tongue tingling.

Distinctively drinkable dark lager - one of the classic examples of the style.
