I'm trying this beer at Haxnbauer in Shanghai. It poured a nearly opaque dark with off white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent some roast. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. Hints of chocolate and roast make the beer. The mouthfeel was medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

Pours black with a tight khaki head. Smells like... a hint of roast malt. No hops, no diacetyl, no dms. Smooth bakers chocolate and crackers, hint of astringency from the darker malts. Light carbonation makes the mouthfeel a bit creamy. Tasty beer, not quite like a stout or porter, but just as good to fulfill that low abv roasty craving. I could see a smoked version working well.

Doesn't drink as heavy as it's look, which is near black. Visual perception throws this beer off. (Close eyes) then taste.
Roasty malt taste, not over powering. Smooth mouthfeel, pleasant aftertaste. Good experience, not a mistake, would buy again, if in the mood for a dark lager.

Pours a dark brown color almost black once in the glass. Thin fizzy partial head dissipates all too quickly leaving just some spotty tan slicks.

Aroma is mild, touch of roasted malts - almost nutty. Some mild earthy hops are also noted.

Taste is very clean - lightly roasted malts, a general nuttiness, some earthy hops a touch of dark bread. A touch of bitterness on the finish - but not much.

Feel is light and clean. Medium carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Although its a light easy drinking beer, the flavor makes it drink like a bigger beer than it is.

Overall a classic and fine example of the style. Really nice robust flavorful beer thats easy drinking.

From tap at the Blue Heron German restaurant in Coos Bay, Oregon! How cool to be eating German food having an authentic German beer. Definite pumpernickle bread flavors. Good beer.

A clean black lager with a full creamy head - nearly two full inches high! Aroma and taste were both very clean.

I would have preferred more malt sweetness. Hops lend a touch of sour and acidity to the finish. Very slight roast character. Less than the color would suggest

Bottled
Pours a jet black body with big foaming tobacco stained head that retreats but keeps the surface covered
Fairly flat charcoal aroma
Nice creamy charred flavour
Not huge but good
