Brewed by:
Yaletown Brewing Co.
British Columbia, Canada

Style: English India Pale Ale (IPA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): not listed

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
First brewed for the colonial British in India, oak casks of IPA survived in the holds of ships sailing through the Indian Ocean. Since hops and alcohol help to preserve beer, it had lots of both. Although it isn't aged in oak, ours has a powerful
hop character.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Odd vegetable smell. Good looks with lace. All C-hop in the taste, high BU, a hop delivery without a good balance of malt. On the aggressive carbonation side. Still, was drinkable, just wouldn't seek it out again and half a pint was much.

On tap at the brewpub. As advertised, more of an English IPA than an American style. Golden orange with couple fingers of head, leaves lacing down the glass.

Soapy, lemony hops with a hint of pine. Slightly off-putting at first but warms on you, moderate bitterness, decent malt base with caramel, toast, honey. Easy to drink, enough going on and a solid bitter bite. Worth trying.

Had on my 2011 annual visit to Vancouver.

Pours bronze with almost no carbonation visible. A creamy white head that dissipates rather quickly.

Aroma of grapefruit and some other unidentifiable stuff.

Taste is grapefruit, sweet, tangerine. Rather disappointing.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and cleansing.

Overall, it is decently drinkable and refreshing. Not one I would seek out again, but worth a try.
