Don’t let the “easy-drinking” part of it’s name mislead you. Green Trail still delivers a mighty hop punch, but also has a smooth malt body that masterfully balances that famous Ithaca Beer hop intensity. Green Trail has “instant hit” potential with die-hard hop heads and new craft drinkers alike. Weighing in at 6.0% ABV, Green Trail neither overwhelms taste buds nor underwhelm palates as sessionable and approachable IPAs often can. Ithaca Beer’s lead brewer, Bill Ballweber put it best, “Green Trail is just a perfect everyday, go-to, instant-crowd-pleaser IPA.”
“What is Green Trail?” one might ask. For founder, Dan Mitchell, Green Trail is a mindset. “It’s about blazing a path that sets you apart from the norm, or that way of thinking out of the ordinary. It’s on that green trail, you often, grow, discover, experience and hopefully improve your surroundings just a little bit…we’re on the Green Trail around here (at Ithaca Beer), are you?”

12 oz bottle
Stored unchilled
Dark golden haze with big fizzy white head.
Aroma of sweet cracker and bready malt and flowery and citrus hops.
Taste follows aroma with bitter piney follow through.
Mouthfeel is dry and fizzy.
Overall, like a Michelob with some fine hop additions. A real comfort beer.

I am continuing my latest horizontal as a part of the eradication of the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody with this one, followed by four more Ithaca offerings.
From the bottle: Nada. I am not a fan of their no longer putting the ABV on the labels. I dig the minimalist look of the new labels, but less is not always more.
At long last, an IPA! I am a self-described, self-avowed & I am really starting to jones. The Pop! of the cap could not happen quickly enough, nor could a hard pour. Gimme dem hops! First though, I had to make my way through the two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, bone-white head that was set up like a phalanx. Color was Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, prompting The Gelt Gang of Croeus, Midas & Mammon to jump up off of my couch & come running into the kitchen for a taste. We are watching the Pixburgh Penguins on teevee & they are fans of Black & (especially) Gold. Nose was riotous in terms of its hops, including pine, grapefruit, orange/tangerine and some cattiness. Mmmm. My mouth was watering uncontrollably in anticipation of the first sip. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was very citrusy, loads of grapefruit and orange/tangerine, followed by a pine resinousness and all underlain by a biscuit maltiness. Mmm. Finish was dry and hoppy and it was good to be back in lupulinville.

L: Comes in a clear golden orange hue, with lots of bubbles and light suspended sediment. The moderately aggressive pour produced a finger and a half of fluffy, off white head with excellent retention and lacing.
S: The nose offers piney, resinous dankness. A stinky, cat pee, wet basil, rotten pine needles aroma. Beneath it there's some grapefruit, orange pith, and biscuit malt sweetness. The aroma is similar to Smuttynose Finest Kind.
T: The taste is more citrus-forward. Grapefruit pith and orange zest. Dried orange peel. There's a sugary sweet malt sweetness underlying it. Towards the finish the dankness comes back in, with notes of pine needles, basil, wet leaves, marijuana. The aftertaste is lightly bitter with some dank flavors, but doesn't linger long.
F: Mouthfeel is medium-light, bordering on light, but with enough fullness and slickness to satisfy. There is a distinct oil hop character that greases the palate, like their flagship IPA Flower Power, but with enough dryness on the finish.
O: Not a bad session IPA, though 6% is a little strong for the range of "session IPA". An easy drinker, though I wish the palate was a little more potent.

L - orange brown. I can barely see the other side of the glass.
S - bright, citrusy orange aroma. Lot of malt sweetness.
T - tastes like Ithaca! Green, piney lemony zest. Earthy crispness. Oddly refreshing.
F - run of the mill here. Low carb, medium body.
O - really not a bad beer. Good, pointed flavor.
